Technical Support / Re: Bitshares block explorer
« on: May 21, 2017, 02:18:46 am »
OK so I have made a withdraw from Poloniex to the public key of Bter...

The BTS no longer appear on my BTS account.

Does that mean the funds are lost?

Is the peg working currently with smartcoins? For example what is the range of price in USD within which a bitUSD fluctuate over a week?

Technical Support / Who is still working on Bitshares?
« on: November 28, 2016, 10:28:28 pm »
Hi everybody.

Sorry for the dumb questions but it's been a while since I loss track of what happens with Bitshares so I am trying to catch up now. Is the protocol still actively developped? Any important milestones in view? Is bytemaster still working on it or did he go full Steemit?

General Discussion / Is the decentralized exchange working?
« on: April 30, 2016, 12:48:00 pm »
Serious and honest question.

Lately Bitstamp became ultra-regulated. All centralized exchanges will follow the same path. The value proposition of decentralized exchange will become obvious to a lots of people interested in wealth preservation.

I don't have time to allocate to follow the ever changing development plans of Bitshares. But the more time goes on, the more I understand that a well functionning DEx is paramount to the crypto-ecosystem and will be the cornestone of the political revolution triggered by technology.

So, is the Bitshares DEx usable? user-friendy? How is the liquidity? Is it still a central part of Bitshares development plan?

Technical Support / Trying to catch up

Hi,

It's been since at least 6 months that I haven't follow the developments here. I have done some research but I cannot understand exactly what's is going on with all the projects. I have several questions regarding the shares in the different projects and would be happy if someone could answer me:

- So when I left there was a merger between Bitshares and Follow my vote, some BTS were created (from 2 billion to 2.5 billion iiirc), are BTS holders at the date of the snapshot eligible to some of the new BTS created? If yes how do one claim the shares that were created?

With is the new number of shares with BTS 2.0? Still 2.5 billion?

- Regarding Bitshares PLAY and PeerTracks, what an AGS holders is entitled from these two projects?

If not how do you follow the price action? I found poloniex charts very inconvenient.

General Discussion / You should contact Blythe Masters

It seems she might love what Bitshares is doing:

"There are lots of different ways technologically to think
about the question of managing motivation for transaction
processing. The approach you describe is one approach that
exists today, but there are entirely different protocols where
the motivation of a network transaction processor, which is a
less pejorative term for miner, could be to keep the network
safe or functioning because they're users. So you could
imagine a world where you dont have independent miners
who are motivated by the financial return for their mining, but
rather people who have invested in a shared utility who have an
interest in it continuing to work because they are using it to
do whatever it is they do for a living."

General Discussion / Re: Gavin's thoughts on mining
« on: April 19, 2015, 06:28:55 pm »
Btw let's do some simple maths to see why mining isn't a problem

Let says we are in 2025 and 1BTC = 100,000$.
Over one year, 3.125*6*24*365 = 164 250 BTC are mined. So that's 16,5 billion of revenue for miners by year.

Today, Internet revenue is 8 trillion/year:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Research-Values-Internet-Revenue-at-8-Trillion-US-Dollars-232894.shtml

It would be interesting to break down this 8 trillion number to see what portion go to the infrastructure (routeurs, cables, servers...) but my guess is that this number is far more than 16,5 billion.  Cisco revenue in 2014 is 47 billion, so that makes the point.

Sorry but mining will no be a problem from an economic standpoint, even at 1m$/BTC, just wait 10 years.

In 2025, more than 20 millions BTC will have been mined and inflation will be less than 0.8%.

BTC Inflation schedule is almost perfect, if you want my opinion. It sucks only for those who think waiting 10 years before being insanely rich is too long.

General Discussion / Re: Nearing Bottom

Anyone find it slightly odd that the top 10-15 coins crashed substantially and simultaneously, with one notable exception?

I've noticed, increasingly and only circumstantially, that there are times when all coins get hit and one gets pumped.

No evidence or data to back that, just an old trader that gets twigged every now and again looking at CMC.

Could be some Wall Street algos moving in?

What's going on at coinmarketcap's bitUSD quote? It's crazy.  Might be causing slide in BTS market cap,   http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/bitusd/

Where are they getting their price feed?   I bought a little bit of bitUSD at bter to try and correct the coinmarketcap feed.  Didn't work.

Who are the owners of coinmarketcap.com?  Could someone be manipulating to buy up cheap BTS?

I mean, with ALL the good news lately, it makes no sense the dropping marketcap (accept for the bitUSD nonsense quotes).
What good news? (Honest question, I really want to know)

You could find the same pattern by taking the Bitcoin curve only between June and August 2011, that's what fractal means.

Consequently the inference you are making about the lenght of the bear market is incorrect and we could be very far from the bottom. I only see wishful thinking.

I think we should really push this theme in 2015
Especially with this same shit happening again and again:

Bitstamp Service Temporarily Suspended

We have reason to believe that one of Bitstamp’s operational wallets was compromised on January 4th, 2015.

As a security precaution against compromises Bitstamp only maintains a small fraction of customer bitcoins in online systems. Bitstamp maintains more than enough offline reserves to cover the compromised bitcoins.

IN THE MEANTIME, PLEASE DO NOT MAKE DEPOSITS TO PREVIOUSLY ISSUED BITCOIN DEPOSIT ADDRESSES. THEY CANNOT BE HONORED!

Customer deposits made prior to January 5th, 2015 9:00 UTC are fully covered by Bitstamp’s reserves. Deposits made to newly issued addresses provided after January 5th, 2015 9:00 UTC can be honored.

Bitstamp takes our security and soundness very seriously. In an excess of caution, we are suspending service as we continue to investigate. We will return to service and amend our security measures as appropriate.

Bitstamp Team
