Monetary system is basically Sidechains implemented on a PoS coin.

Regarding the knowledge-based economy and the reduction of the importance of intergenerational wealth, I think there is some wishful thinking here.

If knowledge become the most important competitive advantage then, guess what, people will upgrade their brains. And that will initially cost a lot of money/capital, thus people with accumulated wealth will be able to easily conserve their competitive advantage assuming they are ready to adapt. Of course some won't adapt and they will lose their status, but the cause would be, as always, the unwillingness to adapt, not the economic paradigm shift per se.

Humans are a very hierarchical species. If knowledge is the new ultimate social weapon then, people, in order to climb in the pecking order, will compete for knowledge as hard as they competed for physical assets. And knowledge by itself will not magically destroy the importance of hereditary advantages in the competition.

General Discussion / Re: A perfect example I found of Bitcoin maximalism

I think you cannot infer too much from a random Reddit discussion thread. Any sane person understand that it's irrational, both from a technological and financial perspective, to be "loyal" to something.

Bitcoin maximalism is a rational wolrdview, with real arguments, not some juvenile fanboy stuff "my blockchain is better than yours", imho.

It's a good news for Monero.

General Discussion / Re: Monero CryptoNote Ring Signatures vs TITAN
« on: December 26, 2014, 10:24:10 pm »
CN provide an additional layer of anonymity. TITAN is just stealth addresses. Neither are "truly anonymous" and network analysis is still a huge problem for both.
What does "network analysis" mean in layman terms?
Is this something that can be foiled by I2P integration?

I wanted to open a thread about this subjective reality article. It makes no sense at all to me.

The argument that subjective reality is superior because it's a "broader view" than objective reality is so weak it's not even funny.
You cannot falsify the fact that an alien entity is dreaming/simulating the universe, and the dreaming entity explication explains the physical perceived world whereas the reverse is not true, therefore* the dreaming entity model is more logical. Seriously? LOL. (And sorry but no, according importance to formal logic is not the equivalent of being narrow minded).

*that where the logic fail lies

Also in dreams things are inconsistent. The physical laws of the dreamed world doesn't applies consistently and even formal logic doesn't always hold. Why don't we perceived the same inconsistence in the Universe in which we live?

Regarding ego loss, I don't see the point to use drugs as an argument. Hundred of thousands of people experience ego loss every day, they just physically die. I am not sure it's the evidence of anything though. Also you can experience ego loss by taking heroin or opium, again I don't see what it proves besides the fact that drugs change the way our neurons interact, thus we experience tentative new mental models under their sway (it's a chemical action, there is no magical or mysterious tricks).

It only shows that our usual mental models are among many, it's doesn't show anything about the structure of the reality.

Technical Support / Re: One of my account is not showing
« on: December 19, 2014, 06:16:17 pm »
Do not worry, this means your funds are safe and accessible. We just need to figure out the proper way to fix your wallet depending on whether your account was registered or not.

As a temporary solution, you can try doing "wallet_account_rename <old_account_name> <new_account_name>", replacing <old_account_name> with your account name, and replacing <new_account_name> with some other name. If you do this, does the account with your balance now show up for you under the new name?
Yes!

It feels good to see that BTS again. Thank you vikram :)
Unless you totally don't care about recovering that account name, we can also try to recover your account if you did indeed register it:

4. If you run "wallet_dump_private_key <account_public_key>", replacing <account_public_key> with the keys listed for the two duplicate accounts from (1), do you get anything for the registered one?
5: If you run "wallet_account_transaction_history", do you have any transactions that show up as registering that account name?
Now when I do (1) I have only one account which shows up, it's the registered one (the unregistered one has disappeared from the list). And when I try (4) with the key of the registered one, I have the following answer "key not found".

But it's not a big deal, I don't really care to recover the name. Thank you again.

Also when I go to one of my other unregistered account and click to "register the_account" I have the choice to select my missing account to pay the 0.5 fee (and the missing account appears with the right balance), but when I select that missing account and try to send the 0.5 fee with it, it doesn't work (nothing happens).

Did you register your account name? If not, it's possible that someone else registered that name and that is what is causing the display issues in your wallet.
I am not 100% sure, but yes I think I have registered it. And the date of registration displayed when I do (1) fits with the hypothesis that I have registered it (the displayed registration date is the same as the date on which I logged to my wallet and sent some BTSX, and as I didn't log to my wallet very often besides that, the likelihood is high that this was me who did the registration that day).

When you did (3), it would be showing the balance for the account that showed up for (2)--the unregistered one--does it show the balance you are missing/expect to belong to your account?
Yes when I do (3) it shows exactly the expected balance.

Thank you vikram for helping me  :)

  • If you type "wallet_list_accounts" in the console, is the missing account included?
Yes. It's even included two times: one is an unregistered account and one is a registered account (it's exactly the same name for the two).

Quote
If yes to (1), if you type "wallet_list_my_accounts" in the console, is the missing account included?
Yes. (This time only one account under that name show up, and it's the unregistered one)
Quote
If yes to (1), if you type "wallet_account_balance" in the console, is the missing account included?
Yes. (Again only one account under that name, and there is no info regarding the registration or not)

Seriously can someone tell me what can I do to recover my funds? There is a non trivial amount of money involved and it starts to be stressful.
