General Discussion / Re: Counterparty's Marketing Strategy - "Gems"
« on: October 22, 2014, 06:36:41 pm »
counter party has Gems, nxt has nxtty, what about us?  :D It would help spread the word about BitShares without a doubt! We could even do the referal program within our own social network!

revenue could come from:

- ads? (although that would be just like Gem)
- creator content. user could subscribe and pay to have access to someone's content like small articles, entertainment pages, etc. Tbh I think an user would pay for high quality content
- unlocking speacial features? certain emoticons, app skins/themes, games, etc
- dividends from burnt fees everytime a transaction is made (trading our social network crypto coin with friends or spending it on special features)

Just seen this: https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares_toolkit/wiki/BitShares-Mail

The bottom symbol, I think it's the G clef? Would it be in your abilities to maybe create a new symbol of maybe a lower case "n" that looks similar? Something symbolizing a note?

I think the one I identify with most is actually the second from the top, but they're all great!

Yes absolutely, I can create/customize as necessary. The icons in the center of the circles I took from an icon pack to get some quick ideas out, so if I take any of the designs further I would customize them to make them more unique to us. I really like the 2nd one down too (the waveform). One of my ideas is to turn the waveform into an "M" (for music). I can also animate (2D + 3D) so I could make the "M" waveform pulse in time to music, which I think will look really cool.

I can also work on a design for the lowercase "n" with notes as you and others have suggested.

Muse/SoundDAC / Re: Will Music be merged into BTS?
« on: October 22, 2014, 05:22:46 pm »
I'm currently working on some design ideas for the branding for MUSIC. See here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=9930.msg132485#msg132485

With all the talk or mergers etc, can anyone confirm whether or not I should continue work on this area or hold off until we are 100% sure that MUSIC will be branded differently to BTS?

Music will have plenty of separate branding. They have their own front end site and that will continue. This merger question is just about the back-end DAC, which most PeerTracks users will never even know exists. I'm sure some of the marketing will apply to all DACs, but Music definitely has its own branding going on with PeerTracks.

OK thanks, I'll continue working on these designs then.  :D

Mmmmm Technotronic...

Are you suggesting that Bitcoin may have been set up for the very purpose of appearing to be anonymous, decentralized, Libertarian etc while actually being the antithesis of this?

It is certainly a possibility in my mind.  I'm reaching out to all of you to get everyone thinking about the potentials and to give reasons why/why not.  If you look at the top cryptos...the top 3 seem to represent this "antithesis".  Now with Peercoin, Nubits seems to be in this camp as well.  NXT is the only one in the top 10 (other than, of course, btsx) that does not seem to follow the same, or similar, pattern.  However, there are many ways to co-opt movements and attempts to co-opt them is a rule--not an exception--throughout history.  So the question is out there for two-fold purposes:
1) to get opinions and
2) to get people thinking of the potential misuse of this tech as we move forward.

A ledger that documents details of a citizen's every single transaction is a wet dream for an authoritarian state. I agree it's certainly a possibility...

Mmmmm Technotronic...

I've always assumed Cicadia 3301 is recruitment for a secret branch of the Cato Institute or other Libertarian think tank to gather a group of individuals to help prevent the sort of thing you are describing here.

I think mining served a purpose. When I first got my head around Bitcoin I imagined it as a living, breathing, virtual snake that was paying people for its protection via mining. That blew my mind and I loved the idea and would argue with anybody that mining was worth the cost to prevent against a 51% attack. I now realize that it is inefficient when the same protection can be "bought" for smaller sums of money.

Are you suggesting that Bitcoin may have been set up for the very purpose of appearing to be anonymous, decentralized, Libertarian etc while actually being the antithesis of this?

I really like cass's "flat ui" style branding ideas for BitShares MUSIC and this seems to be the popular opinion too. I have taken the liberty to "fork" cass's ideas and add my own. Let me know what you think. Shout-out to the Fuzzy one for making me feel super welcome at last Friday's dev hangout (as always) and inspiring me to do some work. More to come soonish...

General Discussion / Re: "insufficient funds" Help Thread
« on: October 16, 2014, 06:39:44 pm »
Sorry to drag this thread back up, but I'm getting a similar "insufficient funds" issue and perhaps it's related.

"client_version": "v0.4.20"

When attempting to add a sell BitBTC order, if I own 1.12345678 BitBTC and I attempt to create a sell order for that exact amount I get the "insufficient funds" error. Trying 1.1234567, 1.123456, 1.12345 and 1.1234 had the same error. However, if I try to create a sell order for 1.123 it goes through fine.

Is there maybe some data stored somewhere that is a reference to a users balance that only goes to 3 decimal points and is therefore making the system think that users have slightly less funds than they really have? Although, looking at the order book there are several orders that are for amounts with more than 3 decimal points. Perhaps these orders were put through with different versions of the client? Or perhaps this issue is unique to me?

General Discussion / Re: Do you follow the Bitcoin trends?
« on: October 14, 2014, 04:52:16 am »
There's at least one more bubble with ATH and magnitude increase left in Bitcoin imo (that is if it doesn't evolve into something more efficient, then there's probably lots more) and I think it might be starting right here. All the weekly trends are exhausted from being pushed down and are springing back. The conditions look perfect. I'm very bullish :D

Also I highly recommend subscribing to the /r/Rad_Decentralization subreddit. Lots of great content and people there that will love BitShares they just don't know it yet!  :D

It's not anything to worry about, it just means you are not currently voting with all of your stake. Anyone that owns shares in a DPOS DAC can vote on the delegates that they trust to sign the blocks and ensure the DAC remains decentralized. If you wish to use all of your votes you need to "thumbs up" 101 delegates and then "update vote" in the vote tab which costs 0.5 BTSX in fees.
