General Discussion / Re: IS BTS dead?
« on: June 03, 2016, 10:48:20 pm »
I will post this to steemit myself this time, but will ask you to consider going to the #beyondbitcoin tag on steemit.com to participate in these discussions and upvote those topics you feel most important.

@fuzzy , what about people who opt not to have anything to do with facebook (or reddit) and also do not feel comfortable to give away their phone number? (AFAIK this will be the future third option to verify your identity on steemit).

We are testing this at present and might have to move away from it, but the short answer is:  Steemit offers me for the first time the ability to start funding this operation and everything I have to do every week to make sure it happens...If people ask questions and participate on steemit, I don't have to worry about going out and trying to sell ad space and other things I personally dislike having to deal with when listening to podcasts.

So I guess the question at this point is: is funding beyond bitcoin's future expansion worth making an account on steemit and upvoting content?  Or should I start charging people to join?  Sell adspace (which doesn't work so well when you have chosen to primarily help bitshares as opposed to the entire crypto ecosystem)?

With this said...I suppose I could let people send me their questions and post them myself---but then I will be the one earning from upvotes on those topics.  I guess it is up to you what you plan on doing, but I would love to hear your thoughts on my reasoning and any potential ways of making what i'm doing more efficient(less work = more accomplished) and paying to continue and hopefully expand beyond bitcoin further in the future.

I like Steem but the only issue I see with the relationship between Steem and Bitshares is that OpenLedger and other Bitshares front ends have not implemented and integrated Steem. We should have either an alternative to Steemit or have some version of Steemit specifically built for the decentralized exchanges who need trollbox and chat.

It's your choice to make, fuzzy.
I'm just giving you feedback that you might lose some audience because for various reasons some of us prefer this forum to steemit.

Are we now in the Beyond Bitshares phase?

Yeah? A name change sure helped Mastercoin right? Name changes don't help. Let Bitshares be Bitshares and let Graphene be Graphene. Use Graphene and no one cares what you name your exchange. Use Bitshares and inherit the name recognition. If Dan isn't involved then find someone who can change the code. If necessary block voting from all are exchange wallets so that only active voting is possible.

Or you can remove the democratic features entirely.

Do you think DAO would below the IPO price
http://www.self-platform.com/#/self/self/policydetail/1.18.34

Not possible. The split price is 100 per ETH. Anyone who sells below the split price will see their orders swept up by bots,.

It makes little sense for someone to trade for lower prices than IPO in most situations.

General Discussion / Re: Move Bitsharestalk to Steemit?

Unfortunately for BitShares Talk the stats show it is dwindling down https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?action=stats pretty quickly. Month over month there are less new posts, less page views, less new members, less new topics. Blame the marketcap, development standstill, getting Steem-rolled, more exciting crypto projects, lack of things to talk about, the merger, the unfulfilled plans, referral bonus being drastically reduced, or whatever, the fact is that there is just a handful of people who post here now - as soon as they realize that fact they will most likely consider moving on as well.

It's real simple. Integrate the forum into OpenLedger itself. People should be attracted to OpenLedger and not to this site. The goal is to get people to spend more time in Bitshares not to have people on Bitsharestalk.

On the other hand if the Bitshares community is going to act like Bitshares is dead because the money ran out then maybe you should vote differently or make a simple change so exchanges can't vote on behalf of the token owners without the token owners permission.

BitShares is a great platform with a great community that is only 5 months away from ending a hugely expensive merger.

Trying to be polite and not criticize it too much, but at this nascent stage I would say Steem probably shouldn't even have a third party project place on this forum.

Good luck to those taking part but please give it a few months as you risk dragging down a great project like BTS unnecessarily if that project ends up failing. (9/10 new businesses do)

I hope this gets moved to random discussion as we don't need a Steem/BTS discussion at this stage and/or give a non share-dropped platform unnecessary exposure.

Haven't you repeatedly said that you sold off all of your non-vesting stake in BitShares long ago? I have come to suspect the motivation behind your comments.

Yes correct, nearly all of my BTS is vesting. ( Though I'm actually in favour of ending the merger early and losing that BTS because I believe it would be in the best interests of BTS.) I've also said once we get to the end of this awful merger I believe BTS could go from strength and to strength & will probably be accumulating a much larger position closer to that stage.

However I wish you guys with interest in other projects luck, but I'm personally not a fan of having them promoted in the general BTS discussion area. BTS and this forum has been built up over a few years, it's a great asset as is the platform. Perhaps if Steem gains some traction over the next 6-12 months some synergistic relationships may be warranted.

However atm it's the equivalent of suggesting moving Bitcointalk.org over to Banx/XRP/ (Some other fairly centralized/new/small possibly competing blockchain forum.)

The anti-delutionist faction made further development of BitShares virtually impossible. Steem has opened up once more a way to get funding to BitShares developers to work on this project (ask Fuzzy, ask kenCode, ask roadscape). In fact, if you take an open minded look, I think you would find that the synergies are quite remarkable.

Additionally, bitsharestalk.org is not owned by the community but by Bitsaphire who have not appeared to be actively involved in BitShares for a very long time. The founders and many of the participants of Steem are passionate about BitShares.

Prove it. Either integrate Steemit into Bitshares or it's just another competitor.

Are you offering to pay for integration? I didn't think so.

Who paid for the trollbox? It's not like there is a worker proposal so we can pay for integration but maybe ask the community?

In any case I definitely don't support converting this community over to Steemit. Steemit is the little child of Bitshares not the other way around.

Bad idea. A better idea would be to build Steemit into OpenLedger so instead of the Trollbox we can also have the forums within the exchange itself. It makes no sense to not promote the exchange. Why communicate here or try to bring Bitshares over to Steemit?

Peerplay seems like a fork of DACPlay minus the social consensus. So why not just support DACPlay which does follow the social consensus?

I won't be buying this one because I don't see why it would be any more successful than DACPlay.
Next we will see PeerDNS without the social consensus.

How exactly is it a fork?

I haven't seen anything to fork.

We have a solid team, we have speced out an entire new blockchain, have presented a very compelling whitepaper, and have industry contacts to help incorporate it into elements of the gaming market once it goes live.

Reading the whitepaper the benefits from this project for Bitshares are numerous and have very real implications for Bitshares this year when Peerplays launches.
If it is based on Graphene but does not adhere to the social consensus then it breaks consensus. If it is not based on Graphene then perhaps I'll take a closer look and revise my opinion.

DACPlay adhered to the social consensus so the community has good reason to be loyal to DACPlay.

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares GUI release 2.0.160428

It's good the trollbox exists but it looks like it was just slapped onto the interface without any thought. In my opinion the communications box should be open by default and should be in it's own location in the communications section of the interface.

Look at a site like Poloniex or BTC-E to see how to do it. You currently have a window which is closed by default, and when opened it covers up screen real estate. This makes no sense as it makes more sense to just always have it open and encourage more people to chat. This means giving it it's own permanent screen real estate.

I have been trying to get excited about STEEM and am playing around with its features so far. But I think one of the main reasons BM is working on it is so that he can fund his endeavors by pumping and dumping it. One of his messages seemed to suggest this pretty clearly. If they truly want to make money from a market cap that naturally reaches great heights, it's going to require a different kind of development. STEEM's success is going to depend even more heavily on the type of outreach and viral growth of the user base that has been so elusive for BitShares. I really hope they have some different people involved in that project who can help sell it, since that's been one of our major shortcomings here.

How did Bitshares lose the Chinese? Now Ethereum is being translated and promoted in China.

This is a question no one has asked but probably many people are thinking about.

General Discussion / Display maximum risk reward every trade
« on: April 28, 2016, 10:05:26 pm »
This works for the interface and would let people know the potential upside and downside before each trade. This is a feature and should not take much developer time to implement.

How much in $ can a person make is the potential reward. How much they can lose is the potential risk.
