Ok, thanks.  Yeah, I usually use the GUI.  I'll also try out the light wallet.

The bin dir only has these files:

cli_wallet.exe
delayed_node.exe
msvcp120.dll
msvcr120.dll
witness_node.exe

Should there be more?  When I click cli_wallet.exe, a console window pops up and then disappears.

Anyone having problems installing BitShares-2.15.286-66c18c6-win64-cli-tools.exe for windows?  I'm using Windows 7 and it looks like it completes installing but there's no executable (ie.  bitshares_client.exe is not created and no icons were created).

There should be a referral system set up like BTS but catered to getting bands signed up.  I think there are a lot of bands that will love the concept of Peertracks but don't know where to start or are tech averse.  A person could get the band set up & even manage its account for a small share of the transactions.  To me, ease-of-use will be the biggest feature for any music DAC.  Artists tend to shy away from dealing w/ too many technical details.

Saw this on bloomberg:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-07-14/can-bitcoin-shine-a-light-into-streaming-music-s-money-traps-

Peertracks solves all the problems the article addresses.  This is what caught my eye:

The initial suggestion came from Wallach, of Spotify. Last December, he posted an essay on Medium called Bitcoin for Rockstars that laid out the basics of a blockchain-based royalty distribution system. Several startups are already working on early versions of the idea, said Barry Silbert, a prominent investor in Bitcoin, though none are ready for prime time. The design and consulting firm IDEO was also drawn to the idea of blockchain, and is running an incubator for startups that want to use the technology for applications in various industries, including home buying, health, and music.

It'd be awesome if Peertracks could get some additional funding from more outside sources.

As a refresher, here's Wallach's essay Bitcoin for Rockers (written Dec 2014):

Just as a follow up, here's what I did to get to v0.9.2:

1.  In your current client version, copy the %APPDATA%/Bitshares/wallets directory as a backup in another dir.  (Export your wallet as .json as well for safety).  If you don't have the wallets dir, create it by importing your .json file & running the client.

2.  Uninstall your current version and delete the %APPDATA%/Bitshares dir.

3.  Install v0.9.2.  Run the new client for a couple minutes until a new %APPDATA%/Bitshares dir is created.

4.  Copy your backup wallets dir over the one in the Bitshares dir.

5.  Run the new client again, enter password, & you should see your wallet there.

6.  To load the blockchain, I ran it from the console instead of the GUI (ie. run C:/Program files/Bitshares/bin/bitshares_client.exe).  Sometimes it would hang, so I had to only run the client for about 3 hours, exit, and start again.  I would save the chain dir each time in case the client crashed & started loading the blockchain again from the beginning.  See the sticky "How to back up "chain" folder, to mitigate client failure" as a reference on how to do this.

7.  Congratulate yourself because this is a pain in the a*s.

Technical Support / Re: Can't restore from json, need help
« on: July 06, 2015, 01:44:51 pm »
I've run into this same problem of importing my json wallet.  When I install v0.5.3, I can import the wallet ok.  But when I select Check for Updates in the GUI I get the "No new updates available" message.  What do I have to do get it to update?  I tried to download the blockchain but got stuck at block 1773118, even using chain-servers.  Using Windows 7.

68
I haven't updated my bitshares client since v0.4.24.  What's the best way to get to v0.9.2?  Should I just back up the wallet as a json file & then download v0.9.2?  Or should I be able to update directly from the client?

When I run v0.4.24, I can only get 1 network connection sporadically.  The other times I get no connection.  And the blocks aren't updating.   When I "check for updates" the message "no new updates are available" shows up.

BitShares PTS / Re: To buy or not to buy PTS, that is the question.
« on: December 26, 2014, 03:19:06 pm »
Now that the gray area regarding what the social consensus has become, and how PTS relates to that has been clarified I would like to point this thread back to the original topic again.

Do you guys think future developers are likely to honor PTS? Why or why not?

If future developers wish to tap into investors, whose primary interest is investing in new and innovative Bitshares DACs, then they should honour PTS.

To my mind, there is a clear demarcation between BTS (the Invictus 'SuperDAC') and PTS (a mechanism by which people can invest in future 'third party' Bitshares DACs).

My investment in BTS is proportionate to my belief in the success of the BTS DAC.

My investment in PTS is proportionate to my belief that (a) there are/ will be developers out there creating future Bitshares DACs and (b) these developers will target PTS holders with a sharedrop in accordance with the social consensus. They will also target this demographic in the knowledge that PTS holders have a track record of evaluating the value propositions of a variety of Bitshares DACs (e.g. BTS, Music, Play, Sparkle etc.) and taking informed decisions on whether to invest further in their enterprise.

Obviously, developers are (and always have been) free to Sharedrop as they wish. However from what I've read and understood from the posts over the last few months, there is nothing to suggest a change the social consensus. From what I can tell, PTS is not only alive and well but has been upgraded, with most (including the exchanges) accepting the upgrade to DPOS-PTS.

 +5%  My thoughts exactly.

Again, BTS did not buy out PTS; it simply honored its share of the consensus.

BitShares PTS / Re: To buy or not to buy PTS, that is the question.

I never saw the BTS snapshot as AGS/PTS being bought out.  AGS/PTS holders were given BTS because of the social contract for DNS and VOTE.  BTS is a dac, just like MUSIC and PLAY, although a big one.  So it should be perfectly fine & "fair" for future dacs to still honor the 10% to AGS/PTS holders.  As Stan said, it's up to the new dacs to decide on how to best distribute.  If people think only BTS holders should be honored, then I argue MUSIC and PLAY holders would have to be considered as well.  They are all dacs.

71
Many AGS holders have already been generously "airdropped" when I3 returned thousands of PTS.  DPOS PTS is an upgrade; the initial intent of PTS hasn't changed at all.  It has & will still support BTS.  Growth in PTS is a calling card for BTS.

Muse/SoundDAC / Re: Perhaps stupid question: Where is the music stored?

How about eventually storing on MAIDSAFE?  More decentralized & could be cheaper.  Bitshares DNS could be involved too.

You are totally fine ... you latest block age (second line) shows a number in the seconds

You can also try
  blockchain_is_synched

I tried blockchain_is_synced and it came back true, so you're correct.  Thanks for the help.  I'll ignore the GUI output.

I installed 0.2.24 and it syncs most of the way but it slows down at the very end.  It gets to the point where as soon as a block is synced, a new block comes along.  So it never finishes.
do you get these info from the GUI .. or from typing "getinfo" in the console?
have you tried "getinfo" in the console?

I was getting it from the GUI at first.  When I type get_info in the console, the blockchain_head_block_num matches the latest block processed so far shown in the GUI.  It's always about 15 blocks away from finishing.

Technical Support / can't finish syncing
« on: November 17, 2014, 02:54:53 pm »
I installed 0.2.24 and it syncs most of the way but it slows down at the very end.  It gets to the point where as soon as a block is synced, a new block comes along.  So it never finishes.

I tried reinstalling, removing the bitshares dir except the wallet dir, resetting the database (via killing the process), and still get the same thing.  I'm running on Windows 8.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?
