General Discussion / Re: Least volatile measure of value. What could it be?
« on: December 12, 2014, 06:21:55 am »
Once the training wheels (price feeds) are off, like when BTS has $200 billion valuation or whatever, won't the BitShares blockchain itself be the "source of value" to which you are referring?

Does it matter if the dollar loses value or gold is manipulated? Governments and (centrallized) markets will collapse, but as long as some fungable source of exchange exists amongst people outside of BTS, than BTS will provide the service of allowing tranparent derivative creation (or whatever we are calling it).

Hell, if the BRICS alliance has anything to say about it,  USD might not even be what ends up propelling BTS to the moon.

Hilarious, but also I think somewhat our fault that she is not aware (assuming she at least visited the BitShares website for her research) that BitShares has already solved this problem....

General Discussion / Re: Benefits of Becoming a BitShares Gateway
« on: December 06, 2014, 09:29:18 pm »
It reads a little bit like we are expecting them to completely change the way they do business rather than showing them a way to integrate BitShares with their system.  Maybe I'm reading it wrong but I would recommend emphasizing any smooth way for them to integrate us into their existing model.  It would be  a very hard sell to an established organization to get them to completely redo their business around Bitshares.

The intent was to add to their business not change their existing business.   If I could communicate that better I am open to suggestions.

How about this re-write of the 2nd paragraph:

Gateways provide the service of bridging the value of external assets such as fiat currency, gold, silver, and Bitcoin into the BitShares ecosystem. This guide will provide a brief overview of the business opportunities available for those who wish to become a Gateway operator. Because gateways are critical to the maturation of BitShares, you will be in the unique position of profiting from its success as well as helping to fuel its growth.

General Discussion / Re: Red Ice Radio - Lets get Dan an Interview!

OK, I sent an e-mail request for him to do a Daniel Larimer interview too.

Not sure though if he will evaluate multiple requests as spam or legitimate audience interest.

Great!
Spam or no spam, what's important is that Bitshares will be brought to his attention, and I trust Dan's qualifications as a potential interview candidate to stand on their own merit.

For those of you who have never heard of Red Ice, you are missing one of the most intelligent and controversial programs in the world.  Check out:  www.redicecreations.com

The host, Henrik Palmgren, has interviewed damm near every great truthseeker of the 21st century, and I think Dan Larimer would be a great candidate! Because he has a worldwide audience of millions, it would be absolutely awesome if we could bring Bitshares to his awareness. He does consider guest suggestions, so If you would like to help please send an email to redicecreations@gmail.com, with "Gust Suggestion: Dan Larimer of Bitshares" or something similar as the subject, and in the body include as much information and links as you can.

I sent an email this afternoon, but I know they he gets a lot of emails so if we can fill a good chunk of the space for the next couple days, maybe we can get on his radar.

I don't recall reading one single post from Adam since the "merger" happened. I would have expected at the very least a "hey guys, happy to be on board, yada, yada" Maybe I missed that post? Anyways, I hope its not too presumptuous to expect his communication to be more often than *never*. Still, giving him the benefit of the doubt maybe he is busy finalizing his goals/strategy for the CAVO presentation, and will be more forthcoming afterwards....?

General Discussion / Re: Vote For Nobody!
« on: December 04, 2014, 05:16:25 am »

I do not see anything comic about it - I have never voted (not a single time, and had the right to do it in 2  different countries in consecutive periods of my life.

Every single time, for about 20 years now, with full conviction that this is the right way to voice my opinion, and believing that  by doing so I am actively 'voting'  ...

Yeah, I've never voted either - not once, and I am not opposed to the concept of representative democracy, its just that in the United States and most other "democracies", we have *mandatory* representative democracy, and little opportunity to participate in 'direct democracy' in an effective way.
None of this takes away from the video being really funny  :)

I know I posted this in general, when perhaps it could have been better under random, but I think it really goes well with the current discussion around FMV, etc. A bit of comic relief....

It's really unethical to encourage people not to vote and "vote" here instead

I claim it is unethical to vote in a rigged system and thus unwittingly give your support to a corrupt system.   So as long as we are going to be judging people, I think supporting a rigged system is far worse than encouraging people to shun a rigged system.

Whether I agree with you or not doesn't matter. Popular media would crucify you on this.

Which is why it wouldn't be promoted as official recommendation but you better believe the grass roots should call for it.

If that's the result you want (that people use VOTE and stay home from the polls), then you don't even have to utter those words. It's a lot safer if you don't. All you have to do is promote the heck out of VOTE. There will be enough people like Gamey who don't bother with real voting, or maybe even think naively that they've done their civic duty by pushing a few buttons, and thus VOTE will gradually have plenty of users who are not real voters. If it's easy to use and fun, then that will happen naturally; no one needs to say it.
This is why FMV is Adam's thing.  He actually believes in the democratic process and thus can market and promote it honestly.   I on the other hand would be dishonest to encourage voting in the official elections and in the event VOTE became the official system I would encourage everyone to vote "NO ONE" for every position as a protest vote.    That is me being honest.

So just to be clear, BTS and PTS will be honored, but not AGS?
EDIT: Nevermind, I guess because AGS is already "snapshotted"

General Discussion / Question about 4.24
« on: November 26, 2014, 07:09:29 pm »
I would like to install the latest client (4.24) for windows but there is only seems to be a 32 bit version.
Can I install the 32 bit update on top of my existing 64 bit version (4.23), or do I have to wait for a 64 bit version to be released?
