You don't necessarily have to spend money to make money. Bitcoin didn't. Yes it's definitely better if we can, but I'm just trying to make the point that it isn't 100% necessary. I've been working full time for free for months now and I'm aware of several others in similar positions. I really dislike these kind of "we need something, anything" type posts like we haven't got a light wallet on the way, or multiple bridges, or a zero click shopping cart, or a massive decentralized marketing effort or multiple media projects or about 20 different teams working on other awesome stuff. If you want to increase the cap, bring attention to these things and highlight them! If you keep pretending nothing is going on then you will decrease the cap.

 :'(

You make good points also. Maybe the bear market's just getting to me. I just hate the thought of something this awesome dropping into oblivion due to mistakes that can possibly be avoided. And I hate seeing long-standing forum members such as sumantso giving up hope.

I still believe BTS has a bright future, and will hold my stake until the bitter end.

I feel you man. I strongly believe it's times like this that we need to come together and work together. We need to focus on all the positive stuff, because there is so much of that! Just look at the newsletter for example: https://bitshares.org/newsletter/2015/nullstreet/the_nullstreet_journal_0-1.pdf

At current market cap, he's not making much

This was expected, and for me a big part of the reason why BTS is going to fail. Developers and others need to be paid, some of them have only this as their job, and with ever decreasing we would need more dilution causing more lowering in price; while other groups can happily fork the efforts and with good marketing can become successful. I only hope they sharedrop on us too.

BTS is NOT going to fail! You are leaving out of the equation the value being added by the delegates which is soon going to become more and more apparent. You are therefore, for whatever your personal reason (fear of success?), just spreading FUD.

And this is not first time of sumantso spreading FUD
Yes for cass second delegate  :)

FUD or not, he makes good points. We won't get anywhere by just telling each other that all is well and good and ignoring the fact that we're kind of dangling over a cliff at the moment. You need to spend money to make money, and with every drop in market cap this gets more difficult. Just as DAC self-funding can be explosively helpful in a rising market, the opposite also holds true: a falling market cap is a death spiral.

Something, anything to boost the market cap is needed ASAP, or we will begin losing developers who aren't willing to put their livelihoods on the line to chase a dream.

Edit: I am in support of cass getting a 2nd delegate btw.

Great idea!

UI Feeback:

1. Instructions as to what this is. Explain that selecting one coin then shows the average spread to the other coins.
2. Color rank the spreads between lowest green highest red.
3. Section showing current top 3/5 best spreads and top 3/5 worst spreads.
4. Links to shapeshift, links to coins.

Awesome job though!  :D

Ethereum will have 12 second block times with PoW out of the box using something called GHOST which enables miners to mine uncle blocks (orphan blocks that still pay rewards).

We shouldn't expect bitassets on ethereum any time soon since a weakness in the schellingcoin system of getting price feeds was discovered. I'm thinking that CFS could could put our bonds on ethereum and add them to etherex, so they'll have fiat tracking instruments that are ultimately backed by bitshares at launch (but with counterparty risk from cryptohedge).

Rune could you show me where this was posted?  I'm interested in seeing it.  You seem to have a tab on what's happening in the ethereum space.

General Discussion / Re: Management/Implementation Delegate Proposal

This whole forum is about suggestions. Saying things should be done faster is the type of discussion that frankly has little value.  You need to find something and do it !

Yes.

We need something like http://ideascale.com/, or maybe we should actually use ideascale...  I'm not sure if the free version would be sufficient, but it's pretty fly and functionally pretty much what we need.

The most supported ideas would rise to the top and get claimed, and accomplished by whatever team or individual was able to.
Ideas which did not receive support would wither away due to inaction or obscurity.

@gamey - how is trello looking?

A BitShares org chart would be helpful so we can avoid duplicating efforts and understand the initiatives which are being worked on by the many different parties involved.

Forums are not really the best platform for coordinating action.

I have no opinion on Asana/Trello and do not have the time to evaluate them.  Rgcrypto uses trello elsewhere and liked it.  Cass has the opposite opinion and an existing project  management setup with Asana.  I will try to push us to a decision because indecision will be what killed the DAC but ultimately I have no opinion.  This likely needs its own discussion as this point.

I use Trello + workflowy together personally, because Trello boards can get messy with too much information. Haven't used Asana, so can't judge which is best. Heard Asana is good for managing teams though.

I think it's just a difference of perspective, some of us may well be overly optimistic and some are realists, some are pessimists etc. I see all the amazing stuff we are achieving and have achieved and will achieve. Does "right now shit stink"? No I don't think so at all. Can we improve and do better? Absolutely! I think we all agree on that.

If you call a mother's baby ugly, don't be surprised when she strongly disagrees with you.  :D

Management delegate? Don't forget, this is a leaderless, decentralized experiment. Who gives authority to this manager? Why should other delegates obey this delegate? The idea with the delegate system is that the best will be voted in by the stakeholders. If one delegate is failing and another potential delegate is doing a better job he should be voted in if he can communicate this effectively to the stakeholders. If the community feels like a role is needed and it doesn't exist then they will vote the best candidate in for this role. Management denotes hierarchy which is something we are trying to minimize as much as possible at the top level. This is really brand new exciting territory here! Sure, individual teams can and do have structure and hierarchy within them, but there should be no hierarchy across the top level of this DAC.

Management delegate, no. Communications delegate, perhaps.

I agree we need better roadmaps and we should improve our communication. Right now this is handled individually by the delegates. One of the problems is that there is so much stuff going on right now and so many different teams and individuals working in different areas and several sources of information about this that it can be hard for the casual observer to grasp all the goings on. The delegates that do not communicate effectively will probably be replaced by others of similar skill level that are better communicators. Don't forget we are still very close to the beginning of this experiment. We will evolve and get better at this over time.

One potential idea right now for example that I see would be for someone to create a site where all the delegates can have their own section to post details of what they have accomplished so far, what they are currently working on with regular updates, what their proposed business plans are, finances, budgets etc. The best delegates should rise to the top.

Edit: Also, like gamey, I saw the word management and jumped to the wrong conclusion looking back. Looks like we are in agreement then  :D  However, I believe this sort of thing should be in a User Generated Content style. If one delegate is reporting on others, how will they report on themselves? They will also have bias on reporting others. Even if they try their very hardest to not be biased, there will always be some bias. I say let the delegates report themselves, but give them better structure in which to do so.

General Discussion / Re: nuBits: 9$ - nice peg
« on: February 07, 2015, 12:55:55 am »
Yupp, remember BitCNY has traded for as high as 1.51 and as low as 0.61 CNY on BTER. With actual trades happening.

Yep, that has happened, though it's important to note that our peg does not exist on external exchanges but on our own exchange on the blockchain accessible via the client. We do not run (currently) any MM bots on the external exchanges. As far as I am aware and someone correct me if I am wrong, NuBits peg only exists on the external exchanges where they do run their bots to maintain their peg.

Edit: So, if for example I convince a friend to try out BitUSD. He is unsure of its value and only offers me $0.61 for 1 BitUSD and we then make that trade and then 5 more of my friends agree to the same trade, it doesn't mean the BitUSD peg is slipping, because the peg does not exist in this new market between my friends and I.
