I wish a block explorer would display the "market cap" of a voting quorum. Isn't it under $1m now? It would cost far more than $1m to build an network that has the adoption is has now and the potential to scale to any realistic TPS. The farther it falls the more likely a profit-seeking entity would take charge and rally voters.

Good thread. BTS is the only chain besides BTC that I actually use for its practical utility to me. That really says it all.

I've been pondering ways to "revive" bitshares (more like "give it momentum again" - it isn't and was never profitable, though we're getting close now that we are not inflating).

Any "property" which you can't protect with your body (the theft of which would then require violating NAP) is protected for you by the government via property laws.

Your car deed is also a shared societal perception that the car "belongs" to you. If I come hotwire it while you are asleep, by your own reasoning I have not violated NAP.

A lot of anarchists don't believe in property rights other than what you can carry, and it's not an invalid argument, I just think it's not what you actually believe.

That's not what he's saying. Ethereum plans to use Casper for all shards (it doesn't even make sense to formulate it this way IMO). What he's saying is if you wanted to fork ethereum and make a *new* network, it will be easier to use your own consensus mechanism.

I don't think they're making a real multi-asset platform. They're making a multi-asset wallet, is a "platform" to the extent that the contracts their interface with are standardized and so the UI can be too.

Maker is making a real asset platform, with a powerful API for composable asset contracts.

There's no reason "virtualized" (user-submitted scripts?) can't be almost as fast as native contracts. This tradeoff concept exists because ethereum made some design decisions which are good for thin clients but bad for performance (there are sequential crypto operations everywhere, in and out of transaction logic. Every state change requires computing several hashes).

In graphene you see some places where the opposite decision is made. Graphene's databases could be exposed to a fast scripting environment where users could submit code.

So to answer the question, I think blocktime is almost completely independent, while throughput and cost favor native contracts only by as much as compiled code is slightly faster than advanced VM tech like java

Yes there is - the artistcoin mechanics are one (but those will surely eventually get pulled into BTS core), but the branding and stated mission matter a lot. Fact is you could sell the existing music industry on Muse but not BTS.
