I've followed and bragged on them at my Meetups, but have not seen much activity. Concept coins with purpose and real world value are essential for greater adoption of crytocurrencies. CureCoin, SolarCoin, etc.. IMHO, "Proof of Valuable Work" vs busy work(POW)  is bound to have promise.

Personally I think variants of Proof of Stake are much more promising.  There isn't much valuable computer work that's difficult to do but trivial to verify, with infinite decentralized work availability, which is the essential combination required for POW systems.

Is one side in the debate ever completely wrong?
...

Yes.  :P

Note that this doesn't mean they have bad intentions.  I try to give people's intentions the benefit of as much doubt as I can possibly muster.  It's entirely possible that those responsible for this mess weren't trying to scam the world, but actually believed that currency distortion was a good idea.

Technical Support / Re: Wallet Question !!!
« on: March 02, 2014, 03:30:06 pm »
Yes, your old wallet will work in the new client if you just copy your wallet.dat from the old data file to the new one.  Just to be paranoid I'd recommend backing up both wallet.dat files elsewhere before overwriting the new wallet.dat with your old client's wallet.dat.

Of course, your wallet should already be backed up elsewhere anyway, but an extra backup until you confirm the balance visible in your new client is as it should be doesn't hurt.

Clarify: If the Bitshares XT chain has to relaunch, isn't the snapshot of the new chain derived from the old chain?

If the reason it has to relaunch is because of problems that distort trading, I'm sure someone will relaunch from the snapshot rather than the latest state once the issue is corrected.

Will the direct connect system use broadcast to initiate, or DHT, or something else?

Thanks!

Ok, great!

In the wallet app, open the debug window from the help menu and go to the console tab.  In the text box at the bottom, enter "listaddressgroupings" (without the quotes) and press enter.

You should see a list of addresses stored in your wallet along with their balances, which should show that your missing PTS is actually safely under your control.

I'd be happy to introduce Tabitha, our social media specialist.  She'll be helping us build our social media platforms and hopes to get everyone in the forum involved. She's been an incredible help to us so far and is excited to be a part of what we're doing with BitShares.  B

Excellent, welcome Tabitha/BitSharesSocial!  So much good work being done recently.

Are you certain you've lost PTS?  Does your balance show lower than it should in the wallet application, or just at your address on Coinplorer?

The wallet application doesn't list all of the addresses at which you have a balance.

More importantly, given the "official" claim on the linked pages, can someone we already know from Invictus introduce this new account?  :P

Have you registered your founder's ID?  ETA is the Ides of March for BitSharesXT, with the distribution defined by a snapshot of the very last blocks of this month (GMT) in the PTS blockchain and the BTC blockchain for the BTC half of AGS donations.

Your Founder ID account has an assigned AGS balance based on your founder donation, which you'll be able to claim using your registered founder key pair.

Does that about cover it?

Well I registered my founders ID via the website and through PM but that was a while ago, not sure If I have to re-register?

You should be fine, but you could run the new 0.5.5 version and make sure that you can generate the same ID from memory.  That version should also confirm whether it's registered properly or not.

what would be the worst case / consequences in this respect (legal issues developing in a negative way)?

Possible worst case scenario: The entire Invictus team is burnt at the stake for speaking freely.  All related crypto assets are demanded to be sent in as settlement.  A bunch of strange people with funny accents fork all the chains from the point before the settlement demand and take over the project.

Because blocking the main thread is a wicked thing to do?

EDIT: Ambiguated my punctuation.

BitShares AGS / Re: PTS transfer issue to AGS
« on: February 23, 2014, 04:38:22 am »
Yes, this AGS will still be confirmed as yours.  Internally wallets use additional addresses to receive change from transactions, but they don't show up as receive addresses in the GUI.  The address is still stored in your wallet, so you'll still be able to claim your stake with it.

If you go into the Debug menu console tab and type: listaddressgroupings

You should see a list of your underlying addresses.

The 600 part is the number of seconds it will stay unlocked before re-locking automatically.  If you want you can use wallet lock to manually lock before then...
