Each new announcement of new features, markets, etc. from OpenLedger is exciting but is tinged with fear. Withdrawing Open Assets is a complete crap shoot. You either get your funds instantly or get into the support queue which can take anywhere from a few days, a few weeks, or over a month to get a transaction processed.

With all these new markets, products, and services being added I can't imagine things are going to get any better.

If you need to withdraw Open Assets the safest bet is Open.Assest->BTS->Exchange.BTC

Muse/SoundDAC / Peertracks Muse Slack (Unofficial)
« on: February 24, 2016, 12:04:30 am »

We've had good luck with slack on other projects (Graphene, Bitshares, Maker, Nullstreet, etc.) so I figured I'd set one up for Muse. Anyone is welcome - feel free to share.

I sent some funds from the MUSE client to openledger-wallet with the incorrect memo. Can they be returned to sender?

Thanks!

General Discussion / MKRCOIN Buyback & Exchange
« on: February 13, 2016, 11:32:18 pm »

MAKER will be releasing soon on Ethereum. Ahead of the release we'd like to purchase as much of the sharedrop back as we can either outright for BTS or in exchange for an Ethereum address in a memo (held as a IUO from Riverhead). Eventually there will be a Metaexchange gateway to exchange MKRCOIN for MAKER but it is unknown when that will actually happen as we're still in the early stages of release.

According to cryptofresh.com there are about 1290.75 MRCOINs currently not under control of a member of the MAKER project (either myself or Toast).

Option 1:
  • I have placed a buy order for 666 BTS/MKRCOIN which currently is ~$3/MKRCOIN. That is the going rate for MKRCOIN pre-sale. The order is up for all 1290.75 outstanding coins.
Option 2:
  • You can send MKRCOIN to me (riverhead #793) with an Ethereum account address in the memo. When the coin goes live on Ethereum we will distribute MAKER 1:1 to the address given.
Option 3:
  • Hold on to your MKRCOIN IOU to trade on the DEX and/or wait for a gateway.
The order on the DEX will stay active until closed with a bot maintained price (thanks to @xeroc 's excellent Exchange API)

General Discussion / Appearance of Deflation vs No Dilution
« on: February 05, 2016, 06:36:10 pm »

If I recall correctly the exclusion of the reserve pool from total supply was because it couldn't be spent and it provided the feeling of deflation. However the cost of that is the stigma of dilution any time that pool is tapped.

What are the communities thoughts on basically pulling a "Ripple" and adding the reserve pool to the communicated total supply and doing away with the term dilution altogether? There'd be a one time hit as the market adjusted to the new supply but the long term benefits may outweigh that cost.

Thoughts?

General Discussion / Protocol vs Business Development
« on: January 07, 2016, 11:21:04 pm »

A lot of keys have been hit in anger about how centralized Bitshares is around CNX when compared to other projects. However I think there is the false confluence of businesses developing on a platform vs developing the platform.

As far as I can tell nearly every 2.0 project has a small core of dedicated platform developers and, especially in Ethereum's case, a ton of 3rd party developers ON the platform.

Are we really so different?

General Discussion / Cryptohedge Final Buyback Announcement.
« on: December 06, 2015, 04:30:55 pm »
Folks,

It has almost been a year since the hack of BTER killed off the Cryptohedge project. During that time Rune and I have been buying back cryptohedge assets like CFSGOLD, CFSUSD, and CFSUSDA as people contact us. I make a post like this every few months to try and get more folks who bought in to sell me back their assets so we can clear the books.

We will be ending the buyback period at midnight New York time (Eastern Standard) DECEMBER 31 2015.

Once the big ball in time square has dropped the buyback will be over.

Thank you,
James.

Technical Support / My Committe Slate
« on: October 24, 2015, 07:31:52 am »
As Cryptonomex matures and gains traction as a world class Blockchain consulting firm Bitshares will need to focus more on the committee to sustain itself. To that end I have been thinking about who I would want to have a hand on the helm. This is not a popularity contest or a measure of one's worth in the community. It's purely as a shareholder wanting the best for my investment.

1) BM - While he has publicly stated he has not interest in this position I feel he needs to take a seat at this table for a while longer.

2) Carpet Ride - Well seasoned in the real world of the investment business, long term Bitshares silent supporter.

3) Toast - Though moved on to other projects a committee member is not a paid or full time position. His crypto/economic domain knowledge and no BS approach would be an island of clarity.

4) btswildpig - A long term supporter of BTS and a fantastic representative for the Chinese community.

5) alt - Strong technical understanding of Bitshares and, as far as I know, in good standing with the Chinese community.

6) Method-x - A proven track record of knowing what succeeds in the marketplace.

7) This list will change over time.

Like I said at the start this is not a popularity contest nor is this an exhaustive list of my dream slate. These are the people I'd want to have sitting around the table, engaging the community, making decisions, and ensuring the stable future of the project.

Stakeholder Proposals / Delegate Marketing.Methodx Bot Rewrite
« on: August 27, 2015, 01:31:04 pm »

There have been a few threads recently about what delegate funds are being used for, who is idle, and who has left. In the spirit of these threads I've decided to expose the operations of my bot re-write effort. This bot uses the funds from this delegate as seed capital (minus 10% that goes to Xeldal's bots).

Since this rewrite is part of my effort to return to providing liquidity to Metaexchange I've chosen to use those accounts for testing which is why you see liquidusd as the bot account.

I'll be working to have this dashboard provide more useful information. Yes, I know it's not the slickest html out there but it gives me the info I need :). This dash will come and go and sometimes display random info as I work on the code but I'll try and keep it up as much as possible. The data is refreshed every 30 seconds from the bot servers.

The new bot logic the funds will be used for will follow the simple technique of holding bitAssets while the current value is below the 30 day moving average and holding BTS when it is above. The bot currently has a limited amount of funds available to it (~$500). I'll be adding more funds as the code matures.

General Discussion / CFS Assets
« on: August 25, 2015, 10:59:27 pm »

Trying to get an idea of how many outstanding CFS Assets are still out there (from the Cryptohedge days). While the BTER hack ended up being terminal for the project, and Rune has since moved on to Ethereum, I'm still trying to get people their money back as they approach me.

So this is a reminder that if you have CFS Assets you want to cash out please send me a PM or make an order on the DEX and I'll try and keep an eye on it and fill them as I'm able. I'm also willing to pay back in BTS as Gold, USD, Silver, etc. isn't that easy to come by.

Also, please remember there was a 30% haircut.

There is of course no time limit on this but every now and then someone turns up with more CFS Assets :) . I'd like to get a picture of our remaining exposure.

Thanks again for all of you that bought into the project. Too bad it was so short lived :( .

General Discussion / Take the Money and Run!
« on: August 25, 2015, 07:47:36 pm »

I've temporarily shutdown the bitUSD, bitGOLD, and bitSILVER to/from BTC pairs on Metaexchange until I can rewrite my pricing software.

What I've found since running these pairs is that when a transactions doesn't go someone's way they come on here, request support, and we try and straighten it out for them as quickly as possible. However when an issue causes funds to flow the other way these same people become unresponsive.

The latest of these are:
1) A stumble in the median price feed for bitUSD (aka the peg) allowed one user to sell their BTC for bitUSD at about $1200/BTC. This cost me around $700.
2) A refund typo send 0.78 BTC to a customer instead of 0.078 BTC. This cost me a little over $150.

While the various people for whom bugs and mistakes have gone in their favor have no obligation to try and make things right it is a bit disappointing that no effort is made to do so.

So basically I am out of business until I can write code that makes me more money. Instant buys for a spread rather than tracking the real market value should do the trick. IT works for ShapeShift and a couple other services.

If metaexchange finds someone else to run these pairs while I'm doing my rewrite I'm cool with that. I'm happy to run the pairs and provide liquidity for the ecosystem but not when people just take the money and run.

I'll continue to run the internal market making bots as usual.
