General Discussion / Re: BTS X is Live
« on: July 19, 2014, 07:53:02 pm »
Can we download out BTS X wallet from the original github page at https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares_toolkit

instead of DAC's fork ? I would just feel more at ease doing that.

Also, shouldnt there be some tag/branch in the git repo for marking the official BTSX release? Trusting real money to the master branch, which is under constant development, doesnt seem right.

Did they market-test that name or just figure people would like something...toxic?

Funnily enough, that's the name of one of the Tox clients. But if someone were to fork it, they could rename it to something nicer.

Ok this might sound a bit crazy, but here me out.

We all know how hard Invictus has been working on BitsharesX, and how their resources are stretched.

The Tox guys have done a fantastic job of creating a secure VOIP/messenger program. They have even implemented onion routing to keep metadata safe.

The only major thing they are missing is blockchain based identity registration. As I understand it, you still have to add friends by typing in a cumbersome public key, which is never going to catch on.

We all really want to see a secure VOIP/messenger that's easy to use, so why dont we combine the best ideas (AND code) of the two projects instead of duplicating effort? Tox needs the blockchain, and Keyhotee needs VOIP. Its all GPL, so everyone's happy.

Im tired of being forced to use Skype because sending family members a public key for my name sounds awkward.

3) Sign the new public key & chain ID with the private key belonging to the BTC/PTS address.
4) Export a new wallet file that contains the new private keys + signatures from the BTC keys.

So just so I understand it, does that mean that your shares in the new DAC are sent from the old BTC address which was written into the genesis block, to the new addresses that you just generated with this export feature? i.e. you are using your AGS private key to sign a transaction sending your shares to this new address?

Can I try this out in the next dry run?

General Discussion / DAC for internet access sharing
« on: July 04, 2014, 10:44:12 pm »
The internet is supposedly everywhere, yet we are all still forced to access it via a small number of centralized ISP companies, with all the obvious problems that entails.

This might just be a unworkable idea but here goes:

What about a DAC that incentivizes sharing your internet connection? I would happily share mine if software was available that made it easy and worth my while.

There has been a proposed project called TorCoin to incentivize running Tor relay nodes. Maybe this could be done in a similar way.

Say someone new sends me their Keyhotee ID, I then need to have an up-to-date local copy of the Keyhotee blockchain to be sure I know what public key that ID is mapped to.

So this leads to another scaling issue - if Keyhotee becomes popular and the blockchain grows into gigabytes like Bitcoin's has - will this be too much of an inconvenience?

We could use a lite client like Electrum, but then you have trust issues about whether the Keyhotee lite server is telling you the right public key. Many Bitcoin users cant be bothered to sync all the time and prefer lite clients - which works for currency because all the server can lie about is whether you have received your payment or not.

Max Keiser just had a guest on who gave a great overview on how banks create new money for loans, and extinguish the money when the loan is repaid. It was at times uncannily like Bytemaster's original Bitshares video:

Skip to 15:00: http://rt.com/shows/keiser-report/159940-episode-max-keiser-603/

Then they made the point that this power to create new money needs to be done more transparently with greater limits, and with real collateral. I kept thinking "Bitshares X is the answer"

Im glad that Invictus has a large stake in BTSX. That gives extra motivation for them to finish it.

Join BitSharesnow,

It's a Sharelebration!!!!

Haha :)

Here is a slogan: "BitUSD: the freedom of crypto, without the volatility"

I dont understand why you should be upset about PTS losing value - the whole point of it is that it has value up to the snapshot date of a real DAC. It was obviously going to go down in value after Feb 28th.

When BTS X is finally released, its going to be awesome. In the meantime everyone should keep their day job and stop whining.

General Discussion / Re: BitShares X Status Update

Core code that is shared in common for BTS X is where I have been focusing my efforts...

Should we expect from this that its quite likely there will be many unforeseen problems getting BitAsset trading going? Or do you expect that will be relatively simple compared to getting the DPOS networking solid & robust?

Can i ask where all the latest BTSX code is?

The blockchain & p2p code that is reusable for all DACs is here:
https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares_toolkit
Its had lots of recent changes by Bytemaster.

However the BTSX specific code hasnt had any updates from Bytemaster for 2 months:
https://github.com/InvictusInnovations/BitShares

Are you just keeping the BTSX specific stuff local for the time being, or is it somewhere else?

Even though youre focusing on making BTSX liquid first without BitAsset trading, I would have thought there would still be many recent changes to BTSX.
