General Discussion / Re: Against Crowdsales.Do not crowdsale !!!

If you want free markets you have to accept the shit parts of it as well.

Agree, you can't have one without the other. To me is like the gambling example I gave above. Or another would be not being able to use Bitcoin because at the same time is used in the deep web for illegal stuff. Or not being able to have privacy because some people are hiding stuff from the government, etc.

You can't have one without the other. That's just the excuse governments use to restrict people's actions.

Imo because they aren't even aware of it's existence.

General Discussion / Re: Possible sidechains projects

Sidechain with Ethereum, have Digix to back up our smartcoins with real gold, audited on the blockchain. Most likely what will be done by Maker.

@Akado We did not decide yet if we make the whole code open source. However since all funds are stored on the BitShares Graphene blockchain, ECHO has no control over the user funds. Even if ECHO as a company fails, no user funds are lost because they could be recovered via a regular BitShares exchange. We probably offer a ECHO password recovery service for regular users. People simply forget passwords, so that means we will manage brain keys if the users hires us to do so.

Sorry I wasn't specific. My question was related to messages. Funds I know are safe assuming you use BitShares and everyone has their own private keys. Still, there could be code that also has access to the user's private keys when they create them since they're using your service I guess.

I believe you have good intentions, but expect people to question that sort of stuff. In this space people don't trust projects that are not open source, even though that doesn't mean the code is clean.

Yeah these are good points. I am collecting them all for a long FAQ and the future customer service. However I am sure we will work the details out over the next months. ECHO is a regular Fintech startup and will work with all kind of potential partners in and out of the industry. It is my personal goal to demonstrate BitShares awesome technology with ECHO.

Good luck with it! It's awesome to finally see some potential real world usage for BitShares, out of this box we're in. Finally something that can reach more people without them having to know all the details. This is the exact type of stuff we need.

General Discussion / Re: Ethereum price discussion

Digix and Slock.it crowdsales can still keep the price afloat or rise it. Don't forget some people have been buying to participate in them.

Nice to finally see an actual service using BitShares, this is what we need.

You claim it's secure and user's have privacy, will you make it open source? Otherwise there will be no way to actually know it is. Maybe the crowd sale, if you do one, can pay for the intellectual propriety and then you can open source it?

Following that same line of thought, gambling should be illegal. That argument doesn't make sense to me.

It is illegal in many parts of the world.

Doesn't mean it should, imo

That looks equally applicable to everything that is sold on the market, not only to crowdsales. Everyone should be free to invest in whatever they want, however, that comes with responsibility as well, everyone should do his own due diligence and no one is forcing them to participate. It's just like everything in life. Being able to participate in everything isn't an excuse not to take responsibility for your actions.

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares price discussion

Its so wonderful that Bitshares is manages to stay in the top 10, ahead of "Fedoracoin" (something that trades only on bter, lol!), and the Bytecoin 80% premine scam, where they tried to fake a 2 year long history of Bytecoin to make it seem fair, but they actually just premined it all.

Good job Bitshares!

Ander -- What's your impression of Stellar/Lumens/Starcoin/STR? I know it's a ripple clone, but I haven't heard much else about it for at least a year. Does it feel like a sleeper?

https://cryptrader.com/charts/poloniex/str/btc

In the past it has followed the same pumps as ripple

Someone take the charge and just do it.  ;)

I'd chip in my Lisk as well  +5%

Yeah I was sort of hoping the same. I can give a few and even pay the asset registration fee assuming it's only those 4k or 5k, but would prefer if someone with more experience on this kind of stuff could handle it.

132
@Ander didn't you have some? @21xhipster do you?

I doubt my 2-3 btc of Lisk will go very far in this, plus I dont want to sell them.

Well, you could always place them for sell at a high price, which you're comfortable with. I have a few also but it's a tiny amount so it wouldn't do much I guess, would need to pool them together with someone else.

What if we could have people "donate" 500 or 1000 lisk each, it doesn't seem like a huge amount, for this cause? And the UIA owner - someone trustworthy - would place the sells at the price each donor asked him to. Then at the end he could redeem them for real lisk. Assuming donors are also trustworthy.

The stupid, idiotic, merger dilution stops in November.  Then inflation is really low, just what is being paid to workers.

We should have a countdown for that on the main page, its like a halving, only better because it cuts it by more than 50%

134
I guess this wont be done

General Discussion / Re: Let's try to get @bitshares on twitter
« on: March 24, 2016, 09:18:16 pm »
I don't think it's about the money but about the attitude. While some members might not agree with this and its their right, you claimed "... and expect the community to pay me back for them in full."

It's about people not even be aware of this or not agreeing with this and then having you "demand" to be reimbursed. It feels unfair, hence the comment about a worker proposal of $10k to get the chinese app page. It gives the impression anyone can just do whatever they like and demand the community pays them back.

if theres a worker proposal everyone votes. I expect that people will reimburse me. I could be wrong.
just trying to be useful.

I know. I believe you have good intentions, but you also must see from other people's pov.

Imagine someone who doesn't agree with this decision and then comes to this thread and gets the idea you are demanding your money back. People will think "why should I pay him for something he did so spontaneously, without asking for my opinion? What if someone does the same with $50k?", etc.
