General Discussion / Re: Incentivize SmartCoin collateralization
« on: January 21, 2017, 02:00:40 am »
Why are users involved in creating smartcoins in the first place? Why shouldn't the blockchain produce them? Does it matter if all the collateral is put up by a user? What if creating a smartcoin was as simple as just buying it from the chain.  If I want 50 bitusd I send the equivalent value in BTS to the chain. The blockchain lockes 200% plus the 101% collateral given to it. The 1% is a fee for this instant conversion.  Same thing in reverse. I send the blockchain the 50 bitusd, it sends me 99% of the value in BTS and unlocks the other 200% it was holding. The 1% fee can be burned or used as dividend payment to bond holders.

This way shorting can work normally and not involve creating supply. The collateral used doesn't made any smartcoins. It is just used to measure position in terms of the smartcoin being shorted. Trader's can short for what they really want to do which is speculate.

NO. This is just blockchain buying and selling passively, blockchain will lose all the token.

This is great idea. Thank you for extracting it from the other topic and make it available for discussion.
It will solve low supply of community smart assets. (bitBTC, bitEUR ...).
It will provide what lacks. Incentive for shorters.
I think rasonable fee 0.1% would provide huge benefit. This is same as open.assets. There fee goes to Openledger.
BTWTY and all others to come use same business model.
Model is proven, it is working.

The thing that is brilliant is that Bitshares key feature smart coins will offer benefit to its shorter (the ones that locks collateral, and risk from market swings and margin call). That promise of "Bitshares" was missing all the time. I like idea very much.

中文 (Chinese) / 关于BTS DEX发行涡轮合约事宜
« on: January 14, 2017, 03:05:10 am »

General Discussion / Re: Brainstorm - Bit20 MSSR / margin call
« on: January 12, 2017, 03:09:27 am »
No he's correct, margin calls only happen once the call price goes below the feed price.

Then documentation should be corrected, because it says that margin call is triggered when the call price is between feed price and SQPP.

The documentation is a copy paste of a write up that I did before BM changed the mechanics to make it so that margin calls are only triggered when the call price goes below the feed price, there's a github issue for this in the graphene repo.

Call price is DEBT * MCR / COLLATERAL.

This is extremely confusing indeed ! If the documentation is not right on certain points, I really don't know where to go to find information to make myself able to take the right decisions.

I need to change this parameter (MSSR) as soon as possible. I don't want to have this market in a dangerous position in the next high volatility event.

Can you confirm a couple more think ? (and correct me if I'm wrong)

If I set the MSSR at 140% and keep the MCR at 175% :

1) The minimum collateral to borrow a BTWTY will be at 245% ( 140 * 175 ) ?
2) Is there a way to avoid asking for so much collateral ?
3) The margin call will be triggered at 175% of the price  ?
4) I won't trigger any margin call by increasing the MSSR because they will be triggered at 175% of the price feed ?
5) Once someone has less than 175% collateral, he will be margin call and its order will sit at 140% of the price feed ?
6) The price at which the margin call order sit in the market move with the price feed ?
3) The margin call will be triggered at 175% of the price  ? Yes
5) Once someone has less than 175% collateral, he will be margin call and its order will sit at 140% of the price feed ? Yes
6) The price at which the margin call order sit in the market move with the price feed ?Yes

OK, we got the detailed report.

Here is some progress after done some investigation:

* among the 4 high-risk issues:
** 3 are related to udt4 which I believe is not being used in the code, so it's safe to ignore or remove the code entirely
** the other 1 looks like a false positive. We're in contact with the "agency", waiting for a confirmation or more discussions.

* among the moderate-risk issues: I checked some of them and found that we do have some issues in the code, but no critical ones are found so far.

General Discussion / Re: Forget Smartcoins, how about Dreamcoins?
« on: January 05, 2017, 04:18:16 am »
I don't know if BTWTY can be qualified as a dreamcoin but so far its growth has been quite impressive.

Charts : www.bittwenty.com

It has tiple its price in 18 months ... so ... now that we have something cool to sell out to the world, we just need THE whale to buy BTS, borrow and sell BTWTY, move up the BTS market faster than the BTWTY grows and everybody get its reward ! The whale have its ROI and long terme investors in crypto have a fast growing crypto index fund.

The only whale is BTS Reserve Pool.

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares 3.0 - It Is Time
« on: December 29, 2016, 02:19:20 am »
I've put some thought into a bitcoin sidechain peg. One major challenge: it turns Bitshares into a high-trust environment. Here's why:

1) We create the two-way peg
2) Various users transfer a large amount, for example 25000 BTC, onto the BTS chain
3) Those bitcoins are held in the BTC chain, controlled by Bitshares witnesses in case of "withdrawal request"
4) This creates a huge bounty for witnesses to go rogue and steal the bitcoins.

If the market cap of Bitshares is low, nobody will transfer a large amount, for example 25000 BTC, onto the BTS chain.

General Discussion / Re: who can tell me what's the GOLD price?
« on: December 29, 2016, 02:09:44 am »
I have adapted the @xeroc developed pricefeed script included within the python-graphenelib repository:
Code: [Select]
https://github.com/xeroc/python-graphenelib
If you are using this script, you may use the steps below as a guide to provide valid feeds for gold and silver.

1.   Edit config.py to remove Yahoo as a feed provider for GOLD and SILVER (Yahoo is not providing a valid USD price at this time)
1.1         Locate the feedsources.Yahoo function
1.2         Comment out the XAU and XAG entries using the hash symbol
Code: [Select]
#"XAU"       : "GOLD",
#"XAG"       : "SILVER",

2.   Ensure Quandl is enable as a feed provider for GOLD and SILVER
Code: [Select]
feedSources["quandl"]    = feedsources.Quandl(datasets={  # You provide a valid API Key or this will fail!
                                                  "GOLD:USD": [
                                                      "WGC/GOLD_DAILY_USD",
                                                      "LBMA/GOLD",
                                                      "PERTH/GOLD_USD_D"
                                                      ],
                                                  "SILVER:USD": [
                                                      "LBMA/SILVER",
                                                      "PERTH/SLVR_USD_D"
                                                      ]
                                                  }
                                              )

3.   Acquire a Quandl API Key
3.1         http://help.quandl.com/article/118-how-do-i-pass-along-my-user-id-or-api-key
3.2         It’s free, but requires a valid email account, GitHub account or other authentication provider

4.   Edit config.py to add your Quandl API Key
Code: [Select]
quandlApiKey = "dsahFHUiewjjd" # This is an invalid API Key. Replace with yours!
5.   Edit feedsources.py to include your Quandl API Key
5.1         Locate the Quandl URL string:
Code: [Select]
url = "https://www.quandl.com/api/v3/datasets/{dataset}.json?start_date={date}.format(5.2         Modify the query string portion of the URL to include your API Key from the config.py file
Code: [Select]
url = "https://www.quandl.com/api/v3/datasets/{dataset}.json?start_date={date}&api_key=" + config.quandlApiKey.format(
These modifications should allow your witness to provide a valid feed for both gold and silver.

I know others are using the scripts from the @wackou provided bts_tools repository:
Code: [Select]
https://github.com/wackou/bts_tools
I quickly glanced at this codebase, but did not locate Quandl as a feed provider.    I will endeavor to scratch together some code for bts_tools as well.

Cheers!
