General Discussion / Re: Project Bring Back Method's Passion...
« on: February 07, 2015, 07:52:02 am »
Being a businessman and judging a venture by its ROI is all very well. But at the end of the day, the real question is: do you believe? Do you fuckin' believe in this project or not? If you believe, then sacrifice a little. There are plenty of people working for free, or damn near free, to push the hell of of BitShares because we BELIEVE in its future.

Thanks Mira,

It was such an awesome update!

General Discussion / Re: Prediction Market
« on: February 06, 2015, 11:04:38 pm »
Imo, prediction markets are amazing and will change the world for the better.

They are a potentially huge feature that bitshares should work on after its immediate priorities of stable release / light wallet / gateways.  They should be one of the things in the next tier of goals for bitshares, along with voting, smart contracts, etc.

I really never followed markets like that, just heard about them. Now that it's part of bitshares though, I am glad it is. I think it will be an exciting part of the ecosystem. I sometimes feel like with all these features bitshares is passively turning me into an economist. :P

BunkerShares on Beyond BitCoin

Today in Beyond BitCoin in the after-hangout we presented an idea to get feedback from BitShares members on.

We presented the idea as it developed over the past week and sought out feedback from the community to see what people thought.

Want everyone know I listened intently to all your responses. Thank you all so much!  +5%

I was also happy to discover Brent.Allsop Canonizer as a potential social consensus platform to utilize for the BunkerShares idea.

In the near future you are likely to hear more from us on this.

In the mean time if anybody would like to become involved with this, you are welcome to contact me to discuss.

Have a great day!

General Discussion / UIA in other Exchanges?
« on: February 06, 2015, 02:03:03 pm »
Just thinking about bitGold and bitUSD etc all being out on BTER which is another public exchange.

I am curious now.. would a UIA be included in those exchanges as well?

If not, is it possible for a UIA to get listed in other Exchanges?

Would we be limited to only exchanges that include BTS in their exchange?

General Discussion / Re: Looking for a job abroad
« on: February 06, 2015, 01:53:32 pm »
I am in China, I plan to move to Canada this year, so I want to find a job in Canada, the best city is Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa.
other country like USA, Germany also can consider.
I am good at software engineer, and Linux system engineer.
Post in this forum, because  the  best job i wanna is about Bitshares.
Thanks.

Hope you find something with BitShares I agree!

If our project we are considering right now works out, might have to add the east coast to the list. You ok with working in an underground nuclear bunker too?

Share more of your software engineering background, I think that way people can better match your skills with opportunities.

General Discussion / Re: UIA Clawback Question
« on: February 05, 2015, 12:33:31 am »
For example suppose we used the current iteration of UIA with the expectation of the future permissions being discussed. Could I then apply and change the permission structure of the issued UIA?

No guarantees at the moment; it is safest to wait.

Ahhh nuts :(

IIRC you will be able to limit trading of those assets ..

Not implemented yet .. not GUI nor CLI

Is it possible or even likely that this functionality once implemented can be applied to existing UIA?

Just want to understand something about UIAs.

I understand the issuer has the power to take back the UIA to the end user that receives it.

After that though, the holder then goes to the BTS market and sells it to someone else who buys it.

Does the issuer of the UIA still have the capability to know who that new holder is and potentially clawback the asset?
This is not yet implemented in the client.

From what I understand, every UIA will have a set of permissions of the issue
registered alongside the asset itself, like a parameter of the asset.

If you buy up those assets you are (read: should be) very well aware of that
fact. It's the same with traditional stock. That's also the motivation for this.
The devs want a UIA system that can support (if required) a regulated market. So
you have to be able to freeze funds, take them away from you, lock trading, and
most importantly, identify every holder.

Thanks for this Xerox. This is what my understanding was as well. While planning I realized that in the initial offer I have no problem implementing my own AML/KYC measures.. however after that it's an open market that can be traded with others in the bitshare ecosphere which I could not vet. So I wanted to know if I can continue to maintain this level of control if I discover holders of our shares are risk factors for criminal association.

From your response am I to understand these permission levels are available in command line but not in the qt_wallet?

If not, when could we expect these to be available?

Thanks again!  +5%

General Discussion / Re: I'm Nervous, Please Reassure Me

Who are the leaders growing in marketing?  On null street I have only seen a great wax and wane.  How about some transparency from Adam Earnest &, Lance Kasper?  They are the only marketing guys getting paid that I am aware of.  All other marketing guys volunteering time and are funneling funds back into the ecosystem but are not paid to pocket a cent.

Rgcrypto, matt608, hpenvy (got us going on many contacts, including shapeshift I think), MethodX (though he has scaled back and is using his funds to support the others efforts).
Also Rune's bizdev efforts with creating Cryptohedge.

There is work starting on funds for a professional quality video to explain bitshares/bitassets that we can point people to.

The people who have delegates are basically volunteering time and using the delegate funds to buy ads.  They havent had much time to accumulate funds yet, and some of the projects require a stable release version before they can launch.

Awesome... I think we can all agree that we have sufficiently helped teenagecheese through his nervousness. :)  +5%

sschechter,
Most of your GUI improvement suggestions are already on developers' todo list: a better help integration is coming; more informative markets directory that shows price movements across all markets; multi-tabbed markets would be implemented later (probably in a couple of months) - there are technical limits but we are working hard to overcome them.
Currently the main focus on a GUI side is simplification and ease of use of the basic functionality like onboarding, registering accounts, making transfers, voting. Market/exchange functionality is the next thing we are going to address.

valzav,
Thank you.  This is the response I am looking for.

With Brian we had 1 guy costing circa $10k a month who probably spent an average of $10k a month (badly) so he was overpaid and under-performing.

At the current CAP I would prefer 1 main guy getting $3000 in personal salary with a budget of $12 000.
Then we'd have budget for a new animated video every 2 weeks, always have an advert on a top crypto-currency site (Coindesk/CMC) with our latest feature as well as extra money leftover for other initiatives. We'd only have to monitor 1 main guy and $3000 at least incentivises a bit of  competition. You'd also have $4500  left over for 3 smaller marketing delegate positions.

At the current CAP our system of 9 marketing delegates with $1500 each is hard to keep track of and if they want any personal salary for their efforts their budget becomes miniscule and takes ages to accrue.

However given that's what we have the more initiatives that add accountability and helps them communicate the better.

You are only going to attract bad talent at that low pay rate. You can get bad even at $10k, it's just less likely at higher rates. Finding someone who can work well in the crypto space unless they are inspired by it is a challenge though, which is why I think the model to hire someone for the task is inefficient.

Delegates are inspired entrepreneurs that have the 'can-do' spirit to make things happen.

We are magical beings that can turn nothing into something.

A guy seeking a job in marketing willing to accept that kind of rate of pay is more than likely going to be really ineffective.

I see the delegates work tend to be complimentary and not overlapping. Some are not even really considered marketing, but their activities accomplish it. They are largely operating on the hope, belief, and prayer that BTS market cap goes up and their delegate stake increases in value. That is enough to motivate anybody to want to see BTS better perform. The motivational dynamic in my estimation is perfect.

There is enough of us to keep an eye on things.. look what happened just last week. One wasn't cutting it and they got the boot. If there are others it will show, and the remaining cream will rise to the top.

My 2.9 cents anyways.

To sum up , this is essentially kind of like the BTS version of "shapeshift" inside of BTS wallet  market .   :P
