General Discussion / Re: Whale Powered Assets
« on: April 19, 2016, 06:06:23 pm »
There is no such thing as not "going where I was hoping."

I'm seeking ideas, concepts, and strategies that might interest whales who are looking for a winning way to become a player.  Some seem to realize that developing their own private blockchain (their first instinct) has its own acceptance issues.  Building on an established (real time, industrial grade) public chain with a decentralized governance mechanism may mitigate some of those issues.  Using a small billion dollar revenue stream to promote a public chain rather than perhaps committing trillions to back a suspiciously private chain is an option I think has potential.  I'm just looking for our community's best brains to figure out the gory details.

Every unicorn I have talked to so far has liked the idea, so I think we're on to something.

Lol. Seriously though, you might have more luck with a more direct approach in your writing. (Says Mr overly direct)  At least at times...

Good buying opportunity if you believe it has a future.

No it's not .

The tech has a future , but market moves on its own free will regardless of how many features/function/big-things .

So if people do believe in the future , they should buy it at a lowest point and get more profit .
Million dollar question is when is the lowest point  :)

General Discussion / Re: Poloniex Deposit
« on: February 24, 2016, 02:59:35 pm »
Has anyone else figured out a good spot to park ETH other than Poloniex? I would like to diversify out of the exchange a bit.
I am using Kryptokit Ethereum Wallet in beta. So far no problems, very simple works well.

yhea .. we are having great fun there
Great work today on poloniex troll box xeroc  :). I was tempted to sell some of my recently purchased ETH and repurchase BTS.
I agree with JonnyBicoin, a lot of guys are influenced by troll box.

For perspective:

If the network were to take 0 fees on everything.
With 1,000,000,000 in reserves, you can safely pay witnesses for 130 years. ($100 per 21 witnesses per month)

$30,000 per year to pay all witnesses. $75 a day.

After 130 years, can BitShares bring in $75 a day? or will we have to dilute? (:

BitShares itself can be seen as a giant FBA, even with 0 fee.  You can buy the token(BTS). Develop your upgrade/smart contract/feature and get paid from the market interest(market-cap) in the platform because of your, or any other, feature.  It becomes even more attractive when your specific feature can also be an FBA and you more directly benefit from its use.

We are all incentivised to build our feature on BitShares because of the market increase.
We are all further insentivised to charge a fee for our feature that the market will bare and reward us for our effort.

Taxing over-rate-limit use and special or limited-supply core features(SmartCoin creation, Short names, etc) could be enough to cover everything.(after 135 years)

Remarkably, BitShares can actually afford near zero fees.  The wide-open frictionless nature is a huge advantage, simplifies everything, and puts whatever profits can be made, directly in the hands of business.

For a jump start(early on) or later for odd situations where there is no other means or incentive to fund changes or development(unlikely/very rare) we can agree to cut our 135 year cushion or agree on a tax somewhere to pay for it.  With heavy use we would be adding to the cushion. Tax could end once paid for.

I think BitShares is so efficient that this task of paying to maintain the system, when mature, will be laughably easy.

BitShares can be invisible...        , indestructible(graphene) and suitable for any and every form(~plasma).
Business and entrepreneurs will take BitShares to the moon, we just need get out of the way.

General Discussion / Re: Things I don't like about the committee
« on: February 07, 2016, 03:54:16 pm »

bitcrab is a businessman, not a solution seeker interested in finding good incentive structures.
That's why he got a response like this - for pushing his interests above the interests of the whole system.

No, bitcrab received the response he did because some people think it's more productive to attack the person rather than the idea. It was an embarrassing thread to read.

Personal attacks on bitcrab shame this community. Discussion and arguments should not be about personal attacks but about ideas.
Those who attacked personally bitcrab using vulgar language should be ashamed of themselves.

Please offer some understanding to people who have put their time and money on the line to build business around BitShares, not to be wiped out by a sudden change of rules.
They react passionately because they've risked a lot and have a lot to lose. Whereas it's easy for you to stay calm and advise them to be ashamed, as you have much less to lose.

I lost a lot with BTS ( in fiat terms ) probably more than most, but I do not use vulgar language in disagreements. Once we start to use vulgarities we have already lost an argument.

This would be nice to announce. That's the same as stealing 1% of all the coins! We announce it and advise for OpenLedger.

@Ander now that I checked, didn't they already have that? I remember when you deposited you would get + 1% and when you withdrew they would take it away from you again? Could someone explain it to me? I really dont know the difference between now and before, I'm confused. I think this is not new??
As far as I remember 1% only used to be for BTS on BTER. If you deposited BTS with them before they would give you 1% on top and when withdrawing they would charge you 1%. I stop trading on BTER long time ago so this info is quite old  :).

High quality & efficient devs are one of our best assets.
We have a consensus embedded in the blockchain that allows us to spend 5 BTS per second on workers. And this consensus is already factored in the price.
Other blockchains spend it on electricity, we spend it on development - this is our strength.
We should utilize those funds and not be scared about the market cap going down.
Unless you think that BitShares is a finished product at this stage and no more development is needed.

I agree on this.
no one like the market cap going down, but we should not stop funding dev because of this.
there are consensus on dev funding, shareholders are free to say no to the worker proposals if they think it unnecessary. let the voting result decide for each proposal.

General Discussion / Re: Crowd Donations for Mike Hearn Hangout

Meh.. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=333824.0
I can't take this guy seriously since then

redlisting/blacklisting some bitcoins?  Is this a joke?

I cannot agree more with you.

I think any news is good bad news if you get Hearn on... but I also think it's better to reach out to the other side as well.  I think it's more important to get the broader Bitcoin community on board with Bitshares than create more divisiveness.  Hearn is already an outcast and even more so now.

Mike is working for R3 and the timing of his post with NYT article cast suspicions on his agenda.  If he has become an outcast with the bitcoin community, inviting him at this sensitive time is inviting bitcoiners' enmity.

I watched his presentation in London around 2013 sometimes when he was just in transition from Google to Circle. He was than promoting blacklisting of coins which did not receive very good reaction from some of the audience. I think if we invite him we are just giving another reason to Bitcoin community to dislike us.
