Learning linux terminal for class...then come back to see 38 votes up!

This is pretty sweet so far.  I
If I had the skills to do a video series I'd send a comprehensive and detailed plan to Invictus ASAP. Bytemaster mentioned a Shark Tank-like strategy.
@Clains, if you ever feel like joining up with me I would have no worries.  It is my hope that experts from the community will lend themselves to the effort organically after they realize my motives.  An honest and passionate community can kickstart this in ways we've never before thought possible.  At first, it will likely not be professional quality, but what matters is the message...thought-provocation and reaching out to a broader audience to teach them about crypto in general and the tools and utilities that will make their lives the 2.0 version of what it is today.  We don't have to model ourselves after traditional shows btw!  This SHOULD be organic and build in scale/visual quality as we naturally grow.

Looking like some things are starting to naturally catch already.  I will love to see community members wrap their arms around this...

As always, I am thankful to have found this board and thankful for all those who actively participate in this extremely valuable experience.

So funny because that is precisely how I felt about this.

@Clains Lets just set up a dang hangout sometime.  I'm already chatting with some people behind the scenes but dont want to say anything quite yet.

Ultimately I would just like to have a hangout that goes on and people from the community can show up and be asses or brilliant...take it as we get it.  Eventually, people will gravitate toward it and fall in love with the extra "layer" of community this provides.  I imagine the ambiance of random hanging in Team Speak when playing games with friends, only with focus topics of the day (a little bit of extra structured points).

Of course special guests would stop by and we would cut these scenes, upload them as separate vids...once certain community members become more popular among the community in general, we will start having special episodes that are "higher quality".
Right now, my big thing is that even when I talk to Bitcoin lovers, I have to always explain what BitShares is...a show like this could clarify it really easily and bring the concept to a broader audience, while inviting them to come on and ask questions--or better, eventually become a community personality!

Though, ByteMaster, I would hope you would let me in on the use of those Obi-Wan Keyhotee memes  :)

General Discussion / Re: Let's discuss reputation schemes.
« on: February 12, 2014, 10:46:17 pm »
IMO a robust reputation/trust system will enable a new frontier of possible DACs. There are many proposed approaches to this problem. Let's discuss and collect ideas.

Idea #1
Each person has their own asset in a prediction market over contract fulfillment. When I make an agreement with someone that requires trust, I make them stake their rep on it by exposing it to a prediction market. It pretty much eliminates all counterparty risk if I can write my contract in a way that allows proof-of-breach and then hedge my contract by shorting that person's reputation.

Idea #2
PageRank-esque web-of-trust, with "initial rep" (in pagerank it's the raw text relevance) set by proof-of-burn. Weighting scheme ideally would make any strategy other than burning a few satoshi and then acquiring trust useless, and "reputation pumping" would be difficult for the same reason link-trading is difficult.

Option 3, apply game theory. Make them put some Bitshares as collateral so that if there is a dispute they lose whatever is held in collateral. This way we can quantify trust in accordance to how much they hold in collateral.

This is basically like a security deposit. If things go just fine then they'll keep whatever is in collateral but if they try to scam or if they don't keep their end of the deal then we redeem for the Bitshares in collateral.

No need for over complicated prediction markets. If you want me to trust you then you should take either an equal amount of risk or greater risk. If I lose you lose with me and that is mutually assured destruction.

This was precisely the reason I ended up feeling so good about Invictus.  They took on more risk than any of us in their no-premine launch of PTS...

Can someone explain how/if Transaction Malleability affects Bitshares PTS and X?
Same codebase ... see the wiki.bitcoin.it wiki for that malleability ... not so interesting in general .. mtgox's software fucked up .. not bitcoin

Upon further reading this is what seems to be the case.  A flaw, but considered a "minor" flaw.  Who knows though...

Looks like Decentralized Exchanges are going to be mighty sexy though when people start realizing en-masse that most of this mess was Mt Gox..

I think BTCe did best: 102 USD/BTC :)

I just wanted to stop by and say thank you to everyone for the hard work you put in.  A community is a valuable thing.  We often forget that tokens only carry value because our relationships create a bond that imbues them with substance beyond their material form.  In short, our bond is our value.

I am honored to see this little group chugging away like you are.  Good Job.

Comments from PeerShares lead on BitShares: http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php?topic=527.msg8780#msg8780

Quote
Bitshares is promising to develop a wide variety of banking, exchange and securities related functionality. It is a very ambitious project. The scope of Peershare is much more narrow, which makes its completion more practical. So far Bitshare has not detailed how its wide array of functionality will be implemented to the extent that I have detailed the proposed implementation of Peershare.

I would be delighted if they succeeded in their objectives as it would completely transform the crypto economy, multiplying its usefulness many times. I hope they succeed. To date they have only produced a CPU mined proof of work altcoin called Protoshares, which they say represents the value of all the innovations that will be produced by Bitshares by way of a "social contract" according to Daniel Larimer in an interview on Let's Talk Bitcoin. A cynical person might say this narrative is a way to pump their rather ordinary altcoin (promising it will be developed into much more than an ordinary altcoin). A less cynical person might say they are really focused on delivering functionality and that Protoshares provides people a way to buy a stake in its success in just the way that buying a stake in Bitcoin encourages people to develop it further to increase the value of their stake. I hope they are able to deliver but it is also possible that as time passes the consensus that develops will be that this is a scam.

I will remind everyone that I have not asked for people's money or asked them to invest in anything of my creation.

People are very quick to throw out the possibility of scams... well they won't have to wait long to see BitShares X in action which will make PeerShares far less interesting.

I think it is healthy for the community to be quick about uttering the words "scam", but should be willing to constantly reassess their opinions as a Team of Devs prove themselves to the community.

The current "powers that be" are certainly aware of the blockchain and I am certain they have people working on their own versions of the same technology so they can leverage their already vast wealth in ways to hedge themselves (and their power) against further disruptive innovations.  Creation of a Viral DAC/Dapp/DAO/DAx platforms would be a WONDERFUL way to gain a seed of control over an entire system.

As I see it, ANY cryptoplatform could potentially have bad actors attempting to find ways to "co-opt the movement" so-to-speak.  There are many potential pitfalls so we must always be willing to acknowledge, as a community, these potentials in the case one of them reaches action threshold.

With that said, although I have been slightly frustrated in the past by the changes in plans by Invictus Innovations' team...as their motives become clearer over time, they have gained more of my respect.  The Devs and community have sacrificed a great deal and have certainly had some pucker moments, but thus far you have worked through it with the intention of helping the community as a whole.  Thanks for that.

Can you explain what you mean by VC?  I would like to hear more :)

If you have chops, I want to give you a platform.   Honestly Invictus should be the sole sponsor of this show for the first six months at least.

email me adam@letstalkbitcoin.com  I'm talking with a guy over at NXT who is doing the same thing for their community, I want to have a show for every metalayer :)   They all have their own developing, rich ecosystem and I want to keep up on all of them but don't have enough time lol.  I could do four hours a week, and then take the best segments from each week to make a show that mixes content from all protocols.

I would love to have them as the sole sponsor.  However, I would also like to start doing interviews and updates from DACs that start adding onto the cornerstone Invictus has laid.  As far as the platform, I am interested in your opinions on this matter.  I have pm'd Bytemaster on the forums for a kind of informal blessing beforehand as I would like to ensure the message I convey is one running parallel to the wishes of both the community and Dev team as opposed to just pumping it full of topics and discussions that potentially run counter the plans Invictus is planning for their move forward.

I would also like to start giving voice to the individual community members who are building useful utilities for the community so they can debut their work for the community and see visual step-by-step guides to utilizing these tools to the greatest effect.

PeerShares looks like it is going to be a beautiful system and the Devs/Community are very respectable.  Something worth looking at found on PeerCoin's Subreddit:  http://www.reddit.com/r/peercoin/comments/1w1wte/peercoin_subproject_peershare_injected_with_500k/

They definitely would fit well in this area...

*Disclosure: I will likely purchase a few PeerShares and have 330 PeerCoin--out of respect for its innovation and community.  And would like to help facilitate growth of the crypto network by covering "Coins", "Shares" and "Communities" I believe in.

4918
Any updates on this?  I would like to offer to help where I can.  This would be a good place to offer to interview you and propagate this message to a broader audience.

It could also be used by you to recruit talent/set bounties (if this would be helpful).

4919
Yes, though the whole point is that the canvas will be easy to paint. I can believe some altcoins, name systems, and other simple stuff will appear within just the first few days. Not sure they have even a single profitable DAC idea though =P

I haven't seen one and I've been looking.  Ethereum is not a bad concept but as I see it, where Invictus Innovation puts most of their effort in creating actual value, Ethereum's team chooses to syphon it from the BitCoin community using Viral Marketing in hopes that they will get enough people to build on their platform and create the value for them.  If not, oh well...the seed funding did well and the initial, closed group of "founders" will sell before anyone knows what happened.

I am hoping Ethereum is forked by Devs more like those here at BitSharesTalk...MUCH respect due to Invictus.
