General Discussion / Re: Time to kill the Graphene name.
« on: February 18, 2016, 07:35:24 pm »
I like the name graphene and I like cool codenames but.....

Mixed market messages are a bad idea. I thought graphene was just a code name for BTS2 but for some it sticks.
The backend is named bitshares-2 on github and the frontend is bitshares-2-ui and these use the bitshares blockchain.

Why confuse newbies with the word graphene. Unless we want to rebrand bitshares as graphene lets kill it off now.

theres enough confusion with openledger being the official client.

Totaly agree! I understand, that this was useful during development of new version, but right now this should be changed!

@fuzzy
I have two questions to @bytemaster for tomorrow:

I am not sure, whether I will be able to join you, so it would be great if you could ask those questions for me:

1. What preparation were made because of upcomming hardfork:
- Did we get confirmation from our partners that they are aware of upcomming fork?
- Do we have GUI ready for upcoming stealth feature, which will be ready to use just after switch to new fork?

2. Do you follow a thread Is it possible for bitshares to become a sidechain of bitcoin?. Did you or any developer from CNX contacted with Eric Martindale from Blockstream. He wrote in that thread, that answer to question asked in thread title is "absolutely, yes! It is definitely possible". It seems that he has a proper knowledge to make this happen.

I'd like to see some marketing budget to be included in the worker proposal, for example for a short video that explains clearly how Bitshares will function from now on. This revolutionary feature has to be understood, otherwise people won't get interested and won't care.

I totaly agree!

To everyone who cares about marketing

We already got an offer. Hypercube wrote here that he is able to prepare such video, but he needs some funding. I wrote to him, that he should create a worker proposal, then he wrote:

To be honest, I doubt there's enough interest.
We'll need to raise thousands to make this happen. With just 9 replies 3 retweets and 375 views....  in two weeks.

So... if we want to have a proper video campain, we have to say that at loud to someone who can prepare such video! Please give @Hypercube some feedback in  his thread

As far as I know, wallets are mostly opensource. That means, that we should provide such feature in a pull request.

Thank you for the reply, let me phrase it slightly differently.  Could the wallets profit from BitShares transactions if they add it to their wallet?  With such as small user base, I was trying to figure out if wallet developers would have any incentive to support it. Also, how would that support directly benefit BitShares?

As support of another blockchain in wallet require additional effort from wallet developer I would not be surprised if they will add some additional transaction fee to it. I would not be agains it, as long as they will be relatively low. Additional source of income is a very good reason to develop a support for that :)

Have all the exchanges been notified?
I just wrote
- poloniex
- bittrex
- yunbi
- ccedk
- shapeshift
- btc38

Did you asked about confirmation from their site, that they received and read an email?

I'd be excited to have a conversation with Daniel or someone else from the BitShares team if they express any interest at all in pursuing this idea.

Hey guys, Eric Martindale with Blockstream here.

Welcome to our forum. BTW, how did you find this topic? :)

@fuzzy this is a cool idea for a hangout!

would love to.  @martindale would you be interested in joining us in a community hangout at some point?

that would be awesome!

In my opinion this is because you wrote that in "Marketing" section of the forum. This is correct, but sad truth is that because most of us have nothing in common with marketing (hardly believe, yeah? :D),  a lot of people never read anything from that subforum. Create worker proposal, then you will have full attention of the community.

Set up a worker proposal, 30k BTS a day for 2 weeks. That's 2k USD right there. Lay out how you will spend them, begin small and if people like the first video you'll easily get voted in for more media projects.. I'm sure people would donate as well, but it's hard to get enough funds for a professional video that way.

Good idea.

More informtion about METAFEES you find on https://metaexchange.info/invest and https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,20150.0.html

@Shentist
BTW, are you going to switch from buyback model to dividends model when code will be merged? This can convince me :)

prices of the cryptocoins by nature are very volatile. This is the reason why we should use stable bitAssets as payment for workers: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,21449.msg278949.html#msg278949

Every worker should get exactly this amount of money which he need to provide a good service. For USA citizen this will be X bitUSD, for Chinese citizen this will be Y bitCNY.
