The witness node really frustrates me. I was sitting on a train without an internet connection but with the full blockchain saved on my laptop, trying to experiment writing some python scripts.

-Everytime I start the witness node it insists on doing a full rescan, which takes 10 minutes.
-When it does finish rescanning, I cant connect to any seed nodes because Im offline, so it then crashes which means I have to restart and rescan again.

This guy is bullish on BTS and is shorting 11600 BitUSD:

Good sign, maybe he knows something...

For this to be antifragile, the MT4 client would have to connect directly to bitshares wallet that you specify, preferably a locally installed full node. Otherwise the MT4 company would just go after the web wallet site.

How much is a license to use Metatrader legitimately? Traders are not going to bother to install a local node.

npm install usually fixes errors about missing stuff - you need npm install inside ./electron as well.

Awesome!

Btw have thought of hosting the web wallet from your metaexchange domain? You could customize it to show your assets to make them easy to find.

@Ander

What you fail to see and take into consideration is that  a price drop to 542  sat right this moment will cause a blackswan in bitBTC; to 425 in bitUSD as well, it will be much worse PR than BM losing several mil BTS...

What do u mean by blackswan? Also, what is bitUSD and where do I find that asset?

bitUSD is just written as USD under the market pegged assets list.

A blackswan means there is insufficient collateral to buy back all bitUSD in existence, in which case all bitUSD will be reset at the current BTS value.

General Discussion / Dump Poloniex, use OPENBTC
« on: November 04, 2015, 11:43:46 pm »
Lots of you have gone into Bitcoin to take advantage of its recent rally. So when you want to go back to trading BTS, why are you still using Poloniex's ledger and paying them fees, when you could support the blockchain instead?

Here you go:
https://bitshares.openledger.info/#/market/BTS_OPENBTC

When you bring your BTC over to Openledger, BTS will naturally get traded on the blockchain too, thereby ending up in stronger hands.

Great, but no one is going to want to pay to post messages in a trollbox, so you cant record those messages in the blockchain. It needs to be free.

That was an indirect conclusion.
The poll results show that the main bottleneck is liquidity. But to have liquidity we need trading bots. And to have good working conditions for the bots we need low fees.
So the fees seem to be the primary reason.

Price feed relative orders is also a way to get liquidity. See my other thread.

General Discussion / Can we talk about feed relative orders again?
« on: November 04, 2015, 01:01:07 am »
BitShares is the only exchange that has order placing fees, which many people just cant get used to.

This makes it harder to run liquidity bots without paying loads on fees. Check out this buywall from an exchange that runs HFT bots: https://www.coinfloor.co.uk/exchange The buy wall is constantly changing every few seconds.

There was discussed previously a solution that will allow anyone to easily add liquidity:  bring back the proposed idea of feed relative orders. And allow choosing the feed for my order, so for example I can choose to use the BTS/BTC feed on the OPENBTC market.

Liquidity issues solved for all markets! I never understood the problem with this idea when it was proposed initially.

General Discussion / Re: TRADE.BTC and TRADE.LTC are up and running
« on: November 03, 2015, 12:26:14 am »
There should be no asset like TRADE.BTC. This was said so many times. Expectations of users is to have a gateway like: real BTC <-> bitBTC. The gateway should provide a liquidity. I should not be forced to trade TRADE.BTC with bitBTC on yet another exchange.

So... in other words... stupidity of current gateway mechanism.

You cant have market pegged assets until you have price discovery of the real BTC/BTS price first. In the mean time do we just wait for the centralized exchanges to determine the price and let them have all the fees and profit? No. We allow trading IOUs for Bitcoin as well as market pegged assets. Besides, its easier to get liquidity for the real thing first.

What we need is one IOU for Bitcoin on the blockchain, instead of Blocktrades and CCEDK competing with eachother and dividing liquidity.

So it's true that double spending 1.0/2.0 is a thing?

Hello Portabello youre new so let me explain what happened. About 11 months ago BM had the genius idea to create a second genesis block that gave 30 million vesting BTS (no strings attached of course) to 1 guy for the purpose of adding voting services to BitShares. Because apparently blockchain voting is a huge market. That one guy has to constantly dump his millions of BTS to pay taxes, because they are due on the price you received an asset.

Lol wut? Are u retarded by chance? wtf ???

For not dumping before the merger? Probably.
