Technical Support / Graphene API Documentation?
« on: September 26, 2015, 04:17:59 pm »
I am having a program designed that will pull data from the blockchain and use it for different aspects of a website, and I need to know what all of my options are for "data points" that can be accessed via the API. I am  trying to figure out *exactly* what data is available that can be queried, and what format each "data point" takes (true / false, numerical, string, etc.). Make sense?

I will try to give an example of what this might look like. This is from my imagination (a non-programmer's perspective) so please bear with me:

- account_name: (string)

- member: (true / false)
- membership_expiration_date (number)

- registered_delegate: (true / false)
- currently_elected_delegate: (true/false)

- registered_witness: (true / false)
- currently_elected_witness: (true/false)

- registered_worker: (true / false)
- currently_elected_worker: (true / false)
- worker_payment_per_block: (number)
- vested_payment: (true / false)
- vesting_period: (number)
- total_payment_requested: (number)

- UIA_registered: (true_false)
- asset_symbol: (string)
- full_name: (string)
- current_supply: (number)
- reserve_fund: (number)
- creation_date: (number)
- burn_message: (string)

- account_ownership_transferred: (true / false)
- account_ownership_transfer_date: (number)

I'm sure that this data is not stored / expressed in the way that I have outlined above, but I just wanted to give an example of some of the "data points" that we need to access.

Does anyone know if there is a list somewhere that would explain how each piece of blockchain data is stored, and what it represents? Or perhaps how I would go about locating this information within the existing documentation?

EDIT: Perhaps I am way off base and have oversimplified how this works in my mind, so feel free to ELI5 :)

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares needs some type of trademark slogan
« on: September 23, 2015, 05:58:06 am »
I bet when bitshares as famous as google , you can say "holy crap" and people would think it's a great slogan .

This is funny, many people exclaim "Holy Crap!" after I try to explain what BitShares is attempting to do for the world  ;)

Love it!

Been away.....what a thing to come back to!! I was honestly ready and happy for next April. Thank you and well done on what must have been a monumental effort. I can hear the distinct hum of an immensely powerful, drawn bow.  When this arrow flies, it goes straight and true all the way to its mark.

Bitshares alone offers nothing. We should never forget that it is the commitment of the community, the trust and belief of our partners and the alliance between integrity and usefulness that makes BItshares a possibility.

Whatever the future challenges, they can and will be overcome.

Let's bring everyone in.  Let's go viral!

well  +5% for trying to help us "simple" users @fav  ;D

level wise of course :)

but I doubt there is an easy fix... I proposed to move to a 2.0 forum with nice features and so on... but many users didn't want a change :<

We have avoided doing much with forums at dposhub specifically because bitsharestalk already exists and we are not looking to compete with the type of talk that goes on here... . are you suggesting there should be another space for bitshares only stakeholders?

a bit OT but it would be perfectly legit to have a "private" forum for stakeholders, and DPOSHUB is the right place. in 2.0 you can easily proof that you are one. entry level 100k or something. I would welcome this.

Is there a way to automatically confirm the balance of any account without the account holder manually participating in some way? For this idea ^^ to work, we would have to continually update/confirm that the balance still exists & belongs to the particular account holder every time the account holder logs in to DposHub. And obviously we don't want users to have to "lock up" a large balance in order to participate. I'm not sure how this could technically be accomplished, but I would love to hear suggestions!

I like the concept of having a forum restricted to BTS holders with a particular level of reserves, but I think that most whales will probably keep their balances in a blinded account, and use a proxy for voting and day to day transactions.

An alternative (one we have been seriously considering) is to have a forum restricted to BTS "lifetime membership" accounts.  Perhaps it won't be as exclusive as a "balance-based" membership, but I think it could be an effective way to weed out most of the less-than-serious players...

If you create such a forum and every wise, informed, mature, rational, shareholding person-of-integrity moves there, who will be left here to greet the newbies and defend them from the foul FUDslinging trolls?
Quote
"Fallen! Fallen is BitSharestalk the Great!'
She has become a dwelling for demons and
a haunt for every impure spirit,
a haunt for every unclean bird,
a haunt for every unclean and detestable animal."

Kind of like the altcoin subforum at bitcointalk, now that I mention it...

She was really something to behold - in her heyday.
Who can forget the great DAC deliberations of late '13, or "merger madness" in the fall of '14. Hell, we would not have that modern invention we all take for granted (DPoS) if not for this hallowed place. Call me a fool, but I still hold a candle - hoping for a strong 2nd wind...or at the very least an Indian Summer....   ;D

Toast is just following the money.   When his paycheck ran out, he went to work for music, and then went to google.   It is better for him to earn $$$ and invest than to work for BTS.

I thought he burned the google bridge by choosing to work for BTS.

Nope, he is currently working at google.

Really?  :o  Since when?

It's complicated. I went back briefly (the vague blacklisting threats were apparently a buff as they called back 8 mo later) then went onto unpaid leave. Between now and leaving BTS I have worked on 4 projects that I intend to help see through completion one way or another...

Forgive me @toast if I am misinterpreting your words, but did you say that Google threatened to blacklist you because you didn't accept their original job offer? Why the hell would you want to work for a company assholes like that?

I accepted and then reneged, also it was never threatening more like pointing out how expensive it is to recruit and how the offer might not be there forever etc which others advised means blacklist

Ah, ok that makes more sense. Well, I sure hope we are successful at turning 2.0 into a profitable DAC - BitShares would be much better off if we could afford to pay more people like you. I'm think you would find voter support pretty quickly should you choose to return - even for freelance jobs.

i hope there will be some solid thing not just some empty plan.

Hi a couple of questions

Where do you fit, are you,

A purveyor of doom, simply crapping on everyone and everything?

Tired of prolonged hope, when nothing seems to work?

A critical, skeptical analyst, keen to focus attention on weak arguments?

If you are a purveyor of doom, simply crapping on everyone and everything
  • We will determine from your response whether this is your tag, if so we''' know to ignore you moving fwd.
If you are tired of prolonged hope, when nothing seems to work
  • We understand the disappointment, we have watched and listened to lions of tech like Andreessen or huge egos like Andreas paint pictures of potential with no evidence of plausible paths to success.
  • It's no surprise you are feeling dejected, so much was pinned on radical transformation. Transformation that might have worked but for Karpeles's ineptness and Lawsky's need for publicity.
  • If this label sits well sits well, time will tell if we lift your spirits
If you are a critical, skeptical analyst, keen to focus attention on weak arguments
  • We need you, if you are a serious analyst good at analysing deficiencies, then you are valuable and your objectivity is welcome.
Hopefully
  • You aren't a miserable fool envious of capable people  but someone that believes that we have a responsibility to see decentralised tech disintermediate greedy institutions.

Damn, Mr. Underwood, you are really good at responding to FUD. Have you and Stan been comparing notes?  :P

General Discussion / Re: For those who want a test net...

Ahhhh, awesome!  These 1 second block times are making my head spin!

Is this just testing for private internal systems or is this really being considered a possibility for the public BTS blockchain?

From bitshares.org:

"As soon as the software is ready, it will enter a public testing period for gathering community feedback. This testing period will last until the community is satisfied with the new system, after which an upgrade snapshot date will be announced with at least 30 days notice.

At the snapshot, the current BitShares network will stop producing blocks and BitShares 2.0 will be launched within hours. All accounts and balances will be fully migrated to BitShares 2.0.

See Migrating to BitShares 2.0 for more details."

Regarding the 1 second block times though?

From BitShares.org:

Delegated Proof of Stake Consensus

All network parameters, from fee schedules to block intervals and transaction sizes, can be tuned via elected delegates. Deterministic selection of block producers allows transactions to be confirmed in an average of just 1 second.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Business development delegate
« on: July 26, 2015, 04:30:49 pm »
Thank you Jonathon, that's very generous of you to offer.

I have all the info required to restore the delegate operation on a new VPS, but the question is, is that the correct course of action?

verbaltech was a 100% business development delegate. I was getting a 15% fee to support the technical work and gentso got 85%

I would certainly be willing to send the 85% somewhere else, if that is what the community wants to do. Although it wasn't much due to the low marketcap, I was very grateful to have that source of funds coming in. My computer services business is my only other source of income, and in a town of only 300 people it doesn't always bring in enough to pay the bills.

If the community is willing to support my role as a witness and have me redirect the delegate fees elsewhere I have the required account keys.

Gentso was planning on sending me a USB stick that I was going to put all of the delegate info on and send it back to him. He never followed through however. So I am the person with all the necessary info to restore delegate operation.

I am not clear DSN what exactly you were disagreeing with about lib_jay's post. As far as I'm concerned delegate.verbaltech is done, unless the community wants to keep me in place as a witness and have me direct the funds elsewhere. It should be up to the community.

Thom,  I would be in favor of verbaltech redirecting 38% of the fund to 38MartinPtswarrior.  It would be a trial run for his delegate, and if we don't like how he handles the funds then we can redirect elsewhere.  Verbaltech could potentially be an "incubator" for delegates to show what they are made of prior to getting voted in.

I second funding 38ptswarrior.

 +5% me to

I would also support this ^^
